Hooray!

I got a job working Parts Counter at my local Nissan dealership. w00t! Mediocre introductory pay, but I can get a raise in 3 months...=D Not to mention mad discounts, hookups, and I get to use the service bays! I get to learn SO MUCH about cars, holy crap! This'll be great. Let the "hook me up with Nismo stuff!" replies begin...

I'm getting 8.50/hr to start, and will probably be working 30 hours a week. After three months I have a possible raise...hopefully to something in the 9's, possibly 10. I make 9 an hour plus tips at my current job, but I'm bored with it and I want to learn about cars! ...and abuse the parts discount. Badly.

I work as a lube tech:D the pay is $5/hr hourly pay and $5/hr flatrate... which isn't bad for a part time job! I think the parts guy gets paid more than me though (but he's been there longer) Plus I get all the discounts for me and my buddies...

I also get to bring my car in at the end of the day when it slows down and work on stuff... like I installed my LSD in about 30 minutes last week!:)

congrats on the job gema!:D

I used to work at my nissan/mercedes dealership washin the serviced cars, made like 6.50/hr but I got to drive all the badass cars. Plus I know all the guys up there now so I can get all the discounts I need. Now I work at my local motorcycle dealership as a test rider so I ride all the badass bikes now. Only problem is Im makin minimum right now, but will soon change, still beats flippin burgers anyday tho.

Nice.... I may have to look into a job at a dealership... I've been in parts for over two years now (but only like 5 months in auto parts) and didn't even think of a job at a dealership... A lot of work to do? At the dealerships I've been at seems like a laid back kinda job, but maybe not.

Oh yeah, how old are you gema?

I'm 17. Hopefully I don't run into any labor law problems...=/ I'm a college student, so I think the usual high school laws don't apply to me. I'll find out this Monday when I go to Alexandria, VA to go see Corporate (and payroll!). I hope I like it too! I'll be making less money per hour, but more every paycheck (to begin with). I'm just bored with my current job (which I'm at now), and I'll get to learn a TON about cars. My boss told me that within a year, I'll pretty much know how to build a car from the ground up. =D Can we say, CRAZY mods to my s13? Thanks for all the props guys!

P.S. Think this job will win the ladies? There was a hottie at the other dealership that offered me 4k for my car...I said no though, I love it too much, even though I had the chance to make 2k off it. Think I should sell it?

It's fine. I got the job, and today was my second day. I LOVE IT. It is mad crazy fun and I'm learning insanely fast. Everyone (including the mechanics) have been thoroughly impressed with me so far. I hope I get to stay here for a while =D

Congratulations on your new job! You'll learn alot working parts, but nothing replaces wrenching experience. Book knowledge will not fully prepare you for some of the bullsh!t you encounter actually working on cars.

Oh, I know, that's why I'm working to befriend all the mechanics, so I can watch them do stuff on my breaks. Also, I'm going to enlist the help of one of the mechanics here who does CRAZY aftermarket stuff to help me with my car. My manager said he'd probably die to work on my S13 =D

There's alot more you can learn at a dealer than at a regular repair shop. I'm an entry-level technician, and tried to get a job at my local Nissan dealer, but they weren't hiring.

Take some auto classes, and if an apprentice position opens up at your work, take it. It's a good trade, tough work sometimes, but the money is decent.
