alright, i havent been able to figure out what is going on with my Z. (91. NA slicktop) so, i was gonna take it to the local nissan stealership and have them deal with it.

Now, worst case scenario, i need a new motor or a rebuild. Have any of you paid to have one done on your NA Z? what did you end up paying for it?

Also, i've had an idea and seen threads for it before, might just scrap the VG (for now) and go SR. for a few reasons:

-it seems to be pretty cost efficient as all i would have to do is get the motor, ecu and harness, a transmission adapter from FR Sport, custom mounts and plug it all in.
-would give me a great deal better power to weight and weight distribution for sliding
-BOOST
-cheaper than a TT swap (I think)
-GAS MILEAGE would be awesome.
-SR's make power just as easily as VG's. minimal work and my buddy has one at around 400 RWHP.
-Isn't done very often so it would be DIFFERENT as all hell.
-TONS of aftermarket support for the SR

other than the normal "just got TT blah blah blah" supported by the same facts every time, what do you guys think? i want to leave this open for discussion and any advice that is given in a well worded form will be taken into consideration.

(inb4 b**** car, inb4 less displacement, inb4 flame, inb4 op cant inb4)

Thanks guys!
-Nick

Im with Tony on this one, but if you are going to go other than a VG, drop in the VH45DE.

Its nice the SR can get 400RWHP, what are the torque numbers? That is what really matters.

numbers on my friends SR car are 375WHP 350TQ or something like that. I do like VH45's but, I want the space of the SR. I do agree that they should be 6 cylinder but, i cant afford the 6cyl i want right now xD plus, its super different to have an SR.

Yeah, as much as i love the sound of the sr20det, there will never be replacement for displacement.

If i decide to swap out the VG, which i will do next year, it's going to be a twin turbo VH45de.

I'm going to take my turbos off my vg30dett and make custom manifolds, and try to use most of my exhaust i already have, as it sounds like a 900 dollar system should. Maybe you shall look into this? the vh45 is probably one of the best nissan engines ever made. definitely better than the vg imo

My rebuild cost right at 4k, but that was with a few extra things done.

You could rb25 swap for around the same cost as an Sr swap. Or vh swap.

Sr only has 200ish hp factory. It better have 400 before it goes in the z, otherwise, no way. :D

You're right, its only 205 stock but, with an intake, better flowing exhaust, a tune, and 12psi of boost, ill be right around 250 which is good. better than what i had with the VG, after that, FMIC and start the build after i break it in. sourcing a better turbo, build the head, ARP studs and a Cometic MLS head gasket, ill be at about 450 on 19psi. unless i end up with an S14 SR, then ill be good on the turbo for a bit. hahaha

If you're going to do a 4cyl why not go with a KA-T, more power potential, displacement, and low end torque.

I too am considering a swap when my engine goes. I'm looking at either a neo rb25 or a ka-t. While it's true there is no replacement for displacement, I've come to dislike the engine bay of the Z.... a lot. If one can get similar performance or close to it out of an engine that actually fits in the bay why not got for it?

I think it worth mentioning that you need a rear sump pan or the cross member needs to be modified for any of these swaps to work. Mckinneymotorsports does mods for the RB but im not sure if it's SR or KA compatible. I could be wrong though.

I didn't even know there would be room for all that, but hell I guess there is!
