So I picked up a 92 240sx 5spd with no engine today for $700. Its in really good condition, so I think I got a good deal. Right now Im kind of confused as to what to do for an engine. I talked to my friend with a 97 240sx and he was telling me something about the older ones (possibly a 92) having a single cam engine from the factory? Is this true? If it is, is the DOHC k24de a direct bolt in? I need to get this running ASAP.

Also, if you have an engine for sale and are close to Charleston, SC I need one, so shoot me some offers. Thanks guys!

Only 89 and 90's came with the SOHC KA24E. 91's and up all came with the DOHC KA24DE. So your car had a DOHC in it stock.

so anyways, since mine is a sohc, I guess I gotta ask, what do I do if I wanna change that? mebbe not to the level of sr20 maybe, but just to a DOHC definitely. does it just bolt in? Or do I have to do something special? thanx.

The DE is a bolt-in replacement...just need the wiring harness, ECU, etc.

It's really a lot of effort for no gains though.

not entirely true--dohc's can be had for like 400 bucks,a nd they can yeild more power per dollar than any sr20 can.

the motorset alone for an sr20 costs 2500 bucks without shipping. for that much--i could swap a de motor in and turbo charge it. its really about preference and how deep your wallet is, bud

I realize that, and this thread won't turn into a KA vs. SR discussion :)

It comes down to what you want to do, and what your ultimate goals for the car are. If you plan to go SR, then it's really a waste of time to swap in a DE. An example is one of my friends cars here in vegas. He has a '90 and a spare DE in his garage, but he's going RB20 when he saves the $$ up, so we decided it's not even worth the effort to install the DE.

I would say decide what you want to do, and then go do it :)

good thing is..either way--your car is setup for a de, and you could bolt either one right in and have all you ps steering and a/c lines and whatnot right there already.
