i went over to XAT in tampa,fl this morning and bought a 3in test pipe! i just hope it doesnt make my car sound like crap. will i be able to feel an increase in performance after i install install it or was it a waste of money? the car has a stock nissan cat on it now. my buddy on the bimmer forum claims ill get 10 - 15 hp but i think thats sounds high for just adding a straight pipe.

Stock Nissan cats flow quite while, but a "test" pipe will probly gain a few HP, and make your exhaust louder/less refined/smellier.

its loud, smelly and unrefined already and i love it!! also it wasnt expensive so if i think its too loud and the gain isnt worth the trouble ill take it off and sell it cheap. * i havent installed it yet so if you guys have or have used one let me know if you guys think i should install it.

i talked to my father about it he says its good but not good he says it will improve the turbo's spool by decreasing back pressure and freed up exhaust flow the not good is that its tampering with federal emissions equipment and its illegal

hahahaha the swap itself is illegal. I wouldn't worry about the test pipe being illegal as it is already a moot point. I had one fabbed up for $15 at a local muffler shop and the 100-yards that I've driven the car it sounded pretty good with my GT spec.

I've got 3 in" from the turbo elbow back with no cat and it sounds awesome with my JIC exhaust. The only downside is that whenever I drive the damn thing with the windows down, I arrive at my destination smelling like exhaust fumes. Not cute....

i live in michigan. every car ive owned here hasnt had a cat on it. none of my buddies have cat's on their cars. its sweet......i guess. anyhow, you may get headaches from the exhaust fumes more frequently. like stop and go traffic. or just sitting with the car running.

I put one on my rb20 and the only difference I noticed was the turbo spool got louder. Boost stayed the same, and I dont have enough seat time in the swap to have an accurate butt dyno.
