Well I finally upgraded my 97 to a 2004 Pathy. Its very clean with 49k miles on it. Im pretty excited since its very low miles but was quite worried that the strut recall still covers my vehicle. I did a quick inspection and found barely any rust in either of the wheel wells which is good. It looks like somone may have put undercoating in there a while back which probably has helped. But like i said, its really clean so I am dont think it is a problem. I guess I'll have to wait and see if I get a letter about it but the dealer never mentioned anything to me and I plain forgot. I suppose the first thing I need to do is have it inspected or call them with my VIN.
Does anyone know if an 2004 from Feb. would still be under the recall? I do wonder if older 04's were not included.
Also, since my 97 was fully loaded and my 04 is not, I would like to add the overhead console with the temp/compass display. Can anyone tell me what range of years I can use with a 2004? The overhead consoles look pretty much the same back to 1996 but would like to know for sure if 2001 is the earliest I can get when buying one online.
Lastly, has anyone installed an aftermarket radio and still been able to use the controls on the steering wheel? If so, is there an added device used to do that?
Thanks.

I believe all R50s are covered under the recall.

I don't know about transferring pre-facelift R50 stuff into a newer R50, sorry.

To retain the steering wheel controls, you will need to use something like a PAC SWI-JACK.

Cool. thanks for the link. I'll keep that in mind if I get the radio replaced. Since there is barely any rust in the wheel wells, Im pretty sure it will pass the recall but it still makes me nervous.

If you have little to no rust, Nissan will apply a free undercoating (assuming you are in a northern state/area where salt is used on the roads).

Some commonly overlooked maintenance items are cabin air filter, fuel filter, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and sometimes coolant & transmission fluid. Don't forget about them!

I hooked up the PAC SWI-JACK to my Clarion vx400 about two months ago.

It works well, although it took nearly 2 hours to program.

I hope thats all they do. I live in Ohio and salt is common place here on the roads. Either way, I should probably have the whole car done. It was well kept and the dealer went through it all. Plus I did get a warranty on it..not much but it covers engine, transmission, etc.

Thats cool. I may look around first. I would like a radio that has everything I want out of it but still is compatible with that device. I think as long as the radio has a remote plug in the back it should work. But that one is specific to only 4 types of radios according to the specs.

Good news. Got back from the dealer. They did a level 1 repair which was just clean and undercoat. They said it was one of the cleanest Pathys they have seen which is a good thing I guess. Now Im gonna focus on a few things that I want to do the new car.

Heres an interesting note though. I get a call from the sales guy who sold me the car and he is buying my old '97 for himself. I guess he liked it so much he wanted it as a winter car. But he asked if there was anything else he needed to know prior to buying so I said, well I just learned about this recall, told him all about it and he still said he was going to buy it. Mind you, my '97 was pretty clean but he said he didnt care. He had his guys look at it and they said it was fine but they are not a Nissan dealer so worst case he would get his money back, maybe get a few bucks out of it. I said ok, good luck..I hope its fine but you never know.
