So I just picked up 300zx brakes (remanufactured, etc.)...everything looks good but I noticed the clips were different on each caliper.

According to this:

The clip holding the pad pins should be like the one seen there in picture 1. Although the clips holding the pad pins in picture 2 look like they'll do fine, should I just go ahead and order a clip like the one in picture 1? I feel like this is a really dumb thing to ask but I just thought this was kinda odd and wanted to double check.

The ones that are in it will work fine... when I got my 300zx rotors I decided I was going to rebuild the seals and everything anyways. There are kits you can buy to replace all of those components, and I would recommend it.

This kit comes with EVERYTHING:

K, that's good to know... I actually just ordered the conversion lines from them.

One other thing, Im actually kind of tempted to install these brakes w/o upgrading the bmc...just to see how it feels. I assume if I did upgrade it, all it would do is stiffen up the feel of the pedal, right? I almost feel it might be not even necessary to get a bigger bmc at all, considering it's only front brakes that are being upgraded.

I saw people's opinions on this whole "to upgrade the bmc or not" on a bunch of other forums...definitely some mixed responses. Im guessing it's just all about personal preference.

Edit: This is an interesting thread...

Well, the thing is, the Z32 BMC is designed to move more fluid in it's stroke than the 240sx. The big 4-piston 300zx brakes need more fluid to be more effective. I'm sure there's several people out there that haven't switched it, but it's still a good idea in order to benefit from having such awesome breaks! Interesting link!

Yeah, that's very true.

After doing some more research, I think I might be better off getting a bigger bmc. Im gonna guess my best bet will be getting the BM50 (1")? The BM57 (17/16") bmc might be a little too much.

Also im curious, what did you get? (If you did order one)

Edit: After reading from this... http://importnut.net/300zxbrakeswap.htm#MC

Under the master cylinder upgrade section...if your car is non-abs (which mine is), it appears that the bigger bmc will have the center port plugged and that needs to be unplugged. Once that is unplugged, you'll have to pretty much destroy the stock bmc to get that fitting and then tap it into the new bmc.

That sounds like loads of fun. *sigh*

Double Edit: Also, correct me if im wrong but I should avoid the Tokico bmc because the fittings in those won't work with the stock 240sx brake hard lines, right?

Triple Edit: Actually, Im starting to think Im better of getting this one...

46010-30P10 Manufacture date 2/89 – 7/90 (15/16" NA Nabco non-ABS)

This site has that one for sale for only $220 :squint:

Fml, I can't make up my mind on this, lol.

I bought an OEM Z32 BMC. Stainless 300zx front lines (not conversion lines) and stainless rear 240sx lines. I'm rerunning all of the brake hard lines all with 300zx fronts and 240sx rear calipers.

Well, I went ahead and ordered the OEM Z32 1" bmc. I just hope everything else goes smoothly from here.

On my beater 240sx, I am driving around with 30mm z32 front calipers without the larger z32 BMC. although, I have the larger BMC, but decided not to put them in yet. the pedal is just a bit mushy compare to my other 240. you just have to relearn how to modulate the brakes. with the 4 piston up front, the brakes lock up too easily. you can drive around without the larger BMC. it's fine.

yeah i think the larger BMC changes the bias slightly and pedal feel, i thought the mushy pedal felt good, less sensitive and longer pedal depth, but as soon as i swapped the new BMC i totally loved it!
