Does anyone like a tire in either of these brands? It seems most people like Michellins and Yokos, but is there a good tire in either of these brands?

Im about to take off a set of Dunlop SP sport A2s, good for 13,000 before I hit the treadbars. I was horribly unimpressed with these. However I have to go to the dunlop/goodyear dealer to prorate the 50K warranty and there going to pull the tires which makes it a huge pain to get tires somewhere else over there.

Any recommendations are appreciated or words of caution in these brands.

btw, where do I find the minimun load rating spec for the J30, can't seem to find it on the spec sticker or the search f(x)

If this is a gen1 Q45 Dunlops flat don't work as far as getting any mileage out of them, I tried twice and got about what you did, I complained enough (and I was the original owner and the car was still under warranty) that both Infiniti and dunlop indicated to me that there was actually a legal problem going on about it. Mine is a 92 traction car originally with Michelen xgtz v4's. but the later year traction cars stated coming with dunlop sports so that was the reommendation at the time, great rain tire, TERRIBLE wear.

I'm thinking it's on a 94 J30, looking at his screen name at least :)

Look at the Firestone Firehawk's. I have heard good things on this site.

I have NITTO NT-450's on my '94 Q. They handle great, wet or dry. I have 15,000 miles on them, and they still look new. They are a little noiser than the Bridgestone Potenza RE92's that I had on the car, but were $50.00 cheaper, each, and I expect 50,000 miles, at least out of them.

The Dunlop Sport A2's suck? Uh oh. My Q has these and I actually bought them because of the great reviews from Tirerack. Oh well. Good thing they were cheap.

Nitto NT450's are a very hard compound. You'll get a lot of mileage from them but they are not very sticky.

You can try Toyo's too. They are also known for their long treadwear and reasonable prices.

I find that Michelins and Goodyear tires are just way overpriced. They perform halfway decent but due to high advertising costs, they pass that onto the consumer.

Go to Tirerack and also look at the Kumho's.

Oh, and regarding the Firestone Firehawk GTA's. They SUCK!!! I had them on my sentra. They couldn't hold a turn if their life depended on it. I replaced it with Bridgestone RE950's and they are exponentially better.

That's probably why I can kick the rear out in a WOT turn. I haven't lost traction with the front-end in hard cornering, but I don't do any SCCA racing in the Q.

I got nearly 35k hard miles out of Dunlop sport 5000 on my 93Q w/traction. They were a sticky Z rated tire great in the rain and no too much $

I HAVE 95 J30. Paid 280 bucks for OEM tires Yokos Avid T4 60,000 mile warranty (my car has 130K)at company called tires plus. They are on the net. It was the best flat price including installation I could find. I actually got my tires cheaper than tires direct or other websites could offer. Go to there website and they used to have coupons for 5 bucks of each tire or something like that. I love mine.

Interesting, considering they are a 300 treadwear tire (realizing that this number is relative).

I cannot comment on the GTA, but the Firestone Firehawk SZ50EP is an outstanding tire - see my earlier comments on this in other posts. Check out the ratings at tirerack.com too! :)

I bought them for the same reason, and would not recommend them to anyone. Beyond the wear, they do not shed water well (very poor in the rain), have a soft side wall and consequently have a tendency to flex and let loose in turns, and they are moderately loud at highway speeds. Ultimately, even though I was willing to trade some overall performance for overall life there was no trade here, i.e. I got neither.

Which Goodyears were you recommending J? the TAs that were mentioned earlier, or an Eagle? and is this a recommendation by default, or do you like Good years?

The traction and treadwear on the NT-450's is "A" & "A"

Took a hard sweeping corner at 80 MPH, this morning, most definitely need the Tokiko Blues, but the tires didn't even sing, just stuck right through.

Now the NITTO's I had on my Mazda truck, were dangerously fun. But that was probably due to the fact it was a truck. I could "drit track" that thing anywhere, anytime.

I saw a set of Falken tires, at the tire store, on Saturday. The tread looked pretty good, but I did nto check the price.

The good thing, is , with the 17" wheels, you can use the same tires most Mustangs use. 245/45/17 A lot of companies make tires for these cars.

The 90-93 came with 170 treadwear the 94-96 came with 200 treadwear [D80V4]..........obviously anything that lasts longer than 20,000 miles is a redesign of the suspension. Reducing the factory performance and braking distance numbers.

Don't count wear on inner edges which is just excessive camber or a weakly reinforced inferior tire.

Even the current Michelin [400 treadwear] is far from the performance oem tire that came on the car new.The closest thing you can buy is the Fstone SZ50EP and it is still significantly harder compounded!

Scarey when people speak of tire prices [range $50-$140 in 15"]...........like it's a badge of honor to buy cheap tires which last a long time.

40,000 deaths per year and over 3,000,000 injuries annual injuries on the US roads.

Owners need every EDGE they can get and tires [shocks and brakes] are an easy cheap fix!
