who's telling the truth. I'm not sure what a shim kit is. I never took the car into the Nissan dealer, I called the service dept and asked, and they said it wasn't required for my car. I had purchased 2 tires and Goodyear seems to think I need an alignment and a shim kit is needed for drive train

if they are talking about the starter, it's highly unlikely. that is, unless there's something i dont know about the 03 max.

What is the work you're having done?

Shim kit could refer to a lot of different things.

If you have stock suspension then there's no need for shimming. If you've got aftermarket suspension which lowers the car drastically, you may need shims to adjust for camber.

was it the front or rear tires? i have gone through 4 sets of wheels and only had one alignment. that was even only due to replacing tie rod ends. i don't think you need them.

I had a flat on the right front tire, so I had to buy 2 new tires, that's when the subject of the shim kit for the drive train came up
