recently while i was driving on the maine turnpike i recieved a 516 dollar speeding ticket the posted speed limit was 50 mph and i was going 75. this is where it gets a little sketchy because when i was slowing down as i saw the sign he pulled me over. there was plenty of room left to slow down but he nabbed me anyway. i definetly think im getting jipped here because lets face it thats a big speeding ticket because fines are doubled in construction zones .................i guess what im getting at is, i wanna know if i have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it reduced or even it going away.....................people have been kind of missing the point on this one i kinda dont have the money for this.......right now im i college and money is tight i can barely afford to pay for gas as it is let alone a 500 dollar tiket just some suggestions would be nice on how to try and maby get it reduced.....i aint convincing myself i didnt do it i kno i was goin to fast and have owned up to it.

It sucks to get a ticket, but if you were in the wrong, why try to lie to yourself. Just suck it up and do better next time.

I have got ONE ticket in what.... 9 years of driving or so.I ran a red light.I did it. As soon as I went through, I saw the motorcycle cop pull onto the road, and I knew I was done.

I didn't bull**** him with any excuse.

I ran the light. I dealt with it.

Paid the fine of $420, took traffic school. Got the ticket erased.

done.

Just deal with it...

This is what you want.

"""Deferred Adjudication

A deferred adjudication probation is a type of court ordered community supervision that results in dismissal of the case upon successful completion of the terms and conditions of the probation. It differs from a regular probation in that there is no finding of guilt because after hearing the plea the court Defers a finding of guilt pending good behavior while on probation.

There is a catch. A deferred adjudication will appear on a criminal background check, which often has the same practical impact as a conviction to potential employers, government agencies etc. However, after successful completion of all terms and conditions of a deferred adjudication probation, you can apply to have the records “sealed” from public inspection by filing a Petition for Non-Disclosure. Again, this has its limitations as government agencies will still have the ability to pull up the records."""

This is what is going to happen, you will be put on a moving violation probation, you WILL pay the ticket. And it will NOT go on ur record. Trust me you want to keep that clean especially if you are young. You can not get a moving violation for 90-180 days depending on how long they put you on probation. If you do you are going to be in DEEP Shiznit. You will need to attend traffic safety driving school stuff and that will be the end of it. Just don't get pulled over for a long while.

Besides whats the point in speeding somewhere like that. Where SOMETHING can really go wrong. if you Love your car. Show it by not always pushing it so hard.

Hope this helps. Good luck man.

I have a question since the Op has been answered... Why the hell is it that every post I see that the poster is talking about going to collage looks like it was written by a retarded monkey with two fingers and carpel tunnel? I mean seriously, "is our children learning?"...

Man, the gene pool needs cleansing.

break the law pay the fine period

that argument I was slowing down as I saw the sign isn't going to work b/c that means you were going faster than 75 before he nabbed you and I'm sure the state speed limit is no where near 75mph or more. You shouldn't be going 80+ in a construction zone anyway thats pretty dangerous to the workers

I drove for 3 years so far, no accidents or tickets.

I don't see what is so complicated about avoiding speeding tickets.

go to the ticket clinic. im sure your ticket requires a mandatory court date, so if you dont want to court as well the ticket clinic lawyers will go.

you pay them i think $150 + court fees which should most likely be under the whole ticket price (you dont pay for the ticket if you go with them)

and it gets taken off your record

you still need to go to driving school for that if you want points off your liscence

Unless you have absolutely nothing on record or any priors, then you MAY (very unlikely though) have a chance...but i doubt that cause you were in a construction area, looks like you are gonna have to deal with that $500 fine

Huge improvement, I like the creative use of mad libs style word blanks. That may have redeemed you haha. Like I said, they pretty much answered your question. The problem in this case is compounded by the fact that it was a construction zone. If you have a look at the statistics, you'll see why they crack down on that particular infraction as harshly as the do. I've been driving for most of my life, licensed or not, and I've never gotten a speeding ticket. I have however gotten a bogus racing charge, several seat belt and fix it tickets, and one eluding due to medical emergency. It cost me over $5,000 for the later, and the charge was BS. I can say though, that I was five miles down the road before I knew they were after me, and IF I had been trying to get away, I would be 5k richer...

dose the ticket say he had you on radar or was it estimated?

if its estimated then you will most likely be able to get it reduced but if its on radar then u don't got a chance.

good luck your going to need it.

Well if you really want to fight this speeding ticket in a construction zone....then the only way that i can think of is this....get on your knees and smile like a doughnut for the judge

^ thats pretty much your only chance of getting that reduced

Not to be pesimistic but if you think Mass is greedy for money, you've never spent time in Maine. Being 18 and out of state your pretty much screwed. I'm not sure if Maine reports tickets to other states (I know Vermont dosen't) but if they don't just pay it and not waste a day dealing wiht the courts.

Well, I don't know too many specifics about the charge within a construction zone, but I got a speeding ticket for going 95 in a 65. All you have to do is follow my specific directions -- this is how I did it. I plead not guilty, then, I accidentally got the date mixed up on my next court date - I missed it. When I go to court to explain myself, they tack on a $100 civil assessment fee, and the commissioner tells me that the officer was present at the last court date and that everyone was waiting on me. Agh! So about a month later I go down there for my final court date. I get called into court, and it turns out that the officer didn't show up. So, I my case was dismissed, and I just had to pay the $100 civil assessment. No ticket fine, no point, nothing. :D

I've been told that if you have some way to try and explain yourself, just plead not guilty at first, then go, hope the officer doesn't show up, if he does, then explain yourself. You can make a request for discovery, which is a document which says how the officer discovered you were speeding i.e. radar, pace, etc., then request his proof of training in radar and the last time it was calibrated. If he doesn't bring any of that information you automatically win, I think.

Again, I don't really know for SURE, but I read up a lot when I got my ticket. It was $401 not in a construction zone, and my insurance would go up a grip. I got really lucky.

OP: When you passed the 50mph sign, were you still going 75? If the answer is yes, then you're screwed. If the answer is no, you likely don't have any proof of this so you're still most likely screwed. And at any rate, unless the speed limit in Maine is 70, you were speeding under any circumstance.

That will only work if you take the case to trial. Normally U will just plead not guilty and speak to the prosecutor, thats how it works in Jersey. If you take the case to trial you are looking at possible full punishment for your offense. In a trial all parties will be present along with any witnesses u may have.

My best suggestion and I have been through alot of different court systems for alot of different tickets. Is to get a lawyer and plead "not guilty". Return to speak to the prosecutor and see what they may have to offer as an amended charge, or substituted violation. Normally the courts will let the points go, depending on the speed, and you will have to pay a higher fine. If you get the lawyer, then he will explain every part of the process and normally a lawyer has better luck with a prosecutor anyway.

Go to court....if you have family that are police officers talk to them (Two of my borthers are cops) I have gotten two tickets, one for speeding (49 in a 35) I went to court, told the judge I was guilty and ready to pay the fine. She deferred it for one year and when the one year was up I had to pay a 100 dollar fine she then reviewed my record and saw that it was clean for one year and wiped the ticket off my record. Ticket would have been $240.00 so it was wiped off and never went to my insurance company.

Second ticket- $1029.57...rear tires were bald/bad tires, dim tail lights, modified exhaust. I went to court and they removed all the fines because I had them all fixed by the time I went to court. Also the officer did not show up because I delayed my court date twice to where I didn't end up going to court for 2 months. I got new tires, fixed the lights and put a stock exhaust on. Two days later I put my old exhaust back on. If you speed or break any law expect to get caught and pay for it.

Be careful who you are taking advice from here too, It seems to me that alot of the people responding are very young new drivers and although that makes for decent experience in court, I do things at court now alot differently then when I was 17 and 18. When I was 17 and 18 I would take the best ammended charge I could talk my way into, nowadays, my lawyer takes care of it and sometimes I dont even have to go to court. Havent had a ticket for a moving violation in a few years but...thats how I handled the last ticket, and I recieved no points, but I did pay almost double the fine.
