This is what you want.hockeyhelmet0727 wrote:recently while i was driving on the maine turnpike i recieved a 516 dollar speeding ticket the posted speed limit was 50 mph and i was going 75. this is where it gets a little sketchy because when i was slowing down as i saw the sign he pulled me over. there was plenty of room left to slow down but he nabbed me anyway. i definetly think im getting jipped here because lets face it thats a big speeding ticket because fines are doubled in construction zones .................i guess what im getting at is, i wanna know if i have a snowballs chance in hell of getting it reduced or even it going away.
Huge improvement, I like the creative use of mad libs style word blanks. That may have redeemed you haha. Like I said, they pretty much answered your question. The problem in this case is compounded by the fact that it was a construction zone. If you have a look at the statistics, you'll see why they crack down on that particular infraction as harshly as the do. I've been driving for most of my life, licensed or not, and I've never gotten a speeding ticket. I have however gotten a bogus racing charge, several seat belt and fix it tickets, and one eluding due to medical emergency. It cost me over $5,000 for the later, and the charge was BS. I can say though, that I was five miles down the road before I knew they were after me, and IF I had been trying to get away, I would be 5k richer...hockeyhelmet0727 wrote:Thanks to all the nice peeps, but jezis cripes; for those of you who were _________ you guys gotta lay off. I was just asking a question. I realize that what i did was stupid, and wont do it again. Maybe i dont have to worry about the court as much as i have to worry about you guys. This ______ is harsh.........and i used my best grammar skillz for the guy who didnt like my grammar. lol
That will only work if you take the case to trial. Normally U will just plead not guilty and speak to the prosecutor, thats how it works in Jersey. If you take the case to trial you are looking at possible full punishment for your offense. In a trial all parties will be present along with any witnesses u may have.uookaa wrote: Well, I don't know too many specifics about the charge within a construction zone, but I got a speeding ticket for going 95 in a 65. All you have to do is follow my specific directions -- this is how I did it. I plead not guilty, then, I accidentally got the date mixed up on my next court date - I missed it. When I go to court to explain myself, they tack on a $100 civil assessment fee, and the commissioner tells me that the officer was present at the last court date and that everyone was waiting on me. Agh! So about a month later I go down there for my final court date. I get called into court, and it turns out that the officer didn't show up. So, I my case was dismissed, and I just had to pay the $100 civil assessment. No ticket fine, no point, nothing.
I've been told that if you have some way to try and explain yourself, just plead not guilty at first, then go, hope the officer doesn't show up, if he does, then explain yourself. You can make a request for discovery, which is a document which says how the officer discovered you were speeding i.e. radar, pace, etc., then request his proof of training in radar and the last time it was calibrated. If he doesn't bring any of that information you automatically win, I think.
Again, I don't really know for SURE, but I read up a lot when I got my ticket. It was $401 not in a construction zone, and my insurance would go up a grip. I got really lucky.
