3037 is too big for a normal daily driver. For more of a dragger it would be good.

a 2530 is good for about 325rwhp with response at 3k RPMs...

GTi-R Pulsar turbos are nice, and the stock S15 SR20 turbo is said to be equivalent to the 2530 from HKS...

Repeat after me......

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO BIG OF A TURBO, THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS TOO BIG OF A TURBO.....

3037 is nice, Greaser laid down like 350rwhp on his shake down with that thing on it. Depending on what you want and what your going to change the GTiR turbo is a nice basic upgrade that's capable of around 300rwhp.

When you just want cruising power, a 3037 is too big. : ) If you're racing a Porsche at every stoplight, fine, get a 3037, otherwise, a more adequately sized turbo will work better. : )

i'm just starting with turbos but what good would it be to spend $2K on a big @ss turbo and have it spooled at 5000 RPM's if we have a 7000 rev limiter?

not all turbos are for every application, but remember the more air you cramp in there the more support from other components you will need. (FUEL, ENGINE MANAGMENT, ETC).

Can you downshift? well then you will never have to worry about spool once your out of first gear, no matter if your road racing, driving around having fun, or drag racing. People always complain about lag, but why do all these road race supra's have a big single turbo..... because it works better. I have a motor that starts making HP at around 3500rpm, full boost hits around 5k. It will pull like crazy too the redline at 8k and no matter what gear I'm in it will not drop out of boost after it gets moving. Not to mention I enjoy all the benifits of a bigger turbo. I think the 3037 is a good choice, everybody and their brother is running a T3/T4 on 1.6 honda's, the 3037 is about the size of a big T3 on the exhaust side, and the compressor is rather large (slightly more than a T4) but you also have 400cc's more air spooling it. I honestly think anything in the GTiR turbo size range is only a "bandaid" because it's still limited by the fact that it's a small frame turbo, it has to spin faster to make the same boost, it has less 'bearing area' inside the CHRA so it will wear out sooner, and it makes more backpressure so it is going to cut engine life due to the higher EGT's. Look in Japan, nobody is running 'just' a little turbo, your always seeing big turbo's on the cars they have.

I'm not saying you need to go all the way to a T67, but calling the 3037 "too big" is not looking at the whole picture IMHO. Too many people have that australian point of view that anything bigger than a T28 is "too big".

thats a very good exprssion of how you feel....very well thought out...you sound very smart....anyway(enough kissin up) my car will be street driven...and i do like the quick spool off the line but most of the things i will be doing...won't be from a line so...GT3037s sounds like it is good for what i want.....of course i am going to do fuel and FMIC before i think about this turbo...is there anything else on the sr that would need to be upgraded for the levels of boost this turbo puts out? thanks again:moon sorry i got excited

You better make sure your engine can handle that bigger turbo and isnt too used and abused. If you plan on putting up the big numbers then everything needs to be brought up as well, from transmission to tires(<not so important) and everything inbetween. You'll of course need to worry about fuel injectors and pump, but thats just the beginning. This also depends on whether you'll be driving it on the street and if your in an emissions unfriendly zone. Remember that the engine is stock and all the parts were engineered for T25/8's running stock boost maybe a little more, they can handle more but that GT3037 might be pushing the limits on certain oem parts. Get the engine installed first and then ask for tips later.

why install the engine first? i was going to build the engine outside the car then put it in...so when i get it i do a rebuild(no offense dauntless)do all my internal work that needs to be done plus all the other work then install the motor and save myself the pain and hassle of putting it in and the tearing it apart in the car...i don't know what parts to use(names and specs) thats why i ask...

If you dont install the engine first and make sure everything is running good then you better make sure the larger turbo will fit without clearance issues.

I just said to install it first because everyone and their brother wants an SR and they ask for lots of tips before they ever have the engine (and most likely they will never have an SR) I dont really like to waste my time guessing what will be good for someones car if we dont know the condition the engine is in. For all we know the engine/turbo etc may need to be rebuilt and that would take all the money people had left to spend.

The 3037 wouldnt have great spool, GT28 series might suit your needs better. Talk to a Good shop and find out what they suggest for you use.

i ran my stock t25 at 15psi for a year and a half, about 12,000 miles. it had tons of grunt down low. now i run a k3t at 20 psi. i like the fact that the stock turbo spooled so fast. but i wasn't happy with 240ish at the wheels. and chances are you won't either. i've learned to go big or don't go. i got 50lb msd injectors. i regret not getting 720cc injectors. i'm already running the 555cc at 90% duty. unfortunately, you can't make big power with quick spool up. not cheaply anyway. weigh out what you want. 450hp at the wheels or 240hp? regardless, just make sure you know how to tune 'em. i've seen too many people not know how to check their timing right, or people who set there idle with the throttle stop.shaun

You start having reliablity problems after 350rwhp I would imagin

there is such thing as to big a turbo depending on you're driving needs.

It's not fun driving a motor that puts out 150hp below 5k, and all you happen to do is drive around town and shift 90% of the time under that.

Wouldn't it save on gas...lol...but 400hp can be a pain in traffic, so you use it when u want to...
