a friend of mine suggested today that when i wanna do a good take off, i should drop it in neutral rev it up to high RPM and then put it in D and this will help with the take off....i drive the 2.5CVT.

so my question is what do you guys think? will it help? is good or bad on the transmission?

this topic came up when i was telling him that another friend of mine that drives an 02 civic, another 06 SI and an RSX want to race my baby lol.

so what yall think?

I'm not sure, but I've heard a neutral drop isn't very good for your car. All this has been discussed on here, do a search for 'launching' for more info.

If you wanted to do a good take off you should have gotten the 3.5

because the GT-R is to expensive.

I understand you are new hear, but there is a search bar for a reason. Plus there is still a thread on the main coupe page that was created 2 days ago. All you needed to do was scoll down. So hear is a link to the thread and I hope the info you are looking for is there. Next time please try the search and welcome to nico.

he is not your friend if he is suggesting that. that is by far one of the worst things you can do to a car. if you want to get off the line quicker, step on the brake pedal and gas pedal at the same time and it will engage the stall converter and allow you to raise your RPMs to i think 2500k (i forgot how much exactly it lets you, its been a while), then just let off the brake while having your foot all the way on the gas. i do that at the track all the time and its safe. i have a 3.5se and get a little bit of wheel spin so the 2.5s should get like no wheel spin at all

This is so bad for your car!!!!!!

Please don't do this, this is called a neutral drop, which is so bad for your transmission.

you know... i'm gonna go against the grain here and suggest that you do it!!

and make sure you start a thread showing the invoice for a new transmission.

Totally bad idea. It's also hard on your transmission when you back upand thow it into drive if you allow it to roll a bit before it actuallyengages. Always be at a complete stop when moving betweenD, R and N. Save some bucks down the road.

i have actually done that once and nearly S*** my pants, i was scared that i would mess it up. (dropping from R into D, while rolling)

now how bout when im, lets say driving and a pretty big down hill comes up, dropping it into neutral to roll, and then putting into gear... would that do the same damage?

Wait what if you have a MT and your rolling in reverse, throw it into first and start going. But your only on a roll is that bad to do?

I don't mean to do a "good take off" just regular driving.

i'm no expert but if its just a little roll i dont think there would be any problem with a stick shift. i mean when you step on the clutch its like being in nuetral and often will roll back a little. that would be stupid if they made it to where you had to do a complete stop with stick shift

Okay, I've got the 2.5 CVT and tried this before. . .

I was on an energy drink high, had an argument and wanted to leave fast. I revd up to ~3k and tried to put it into D. The car did NOT take off and just stood there waited for the rpms to lower then started to move like normal.

What a smart baby, it saved itself.

Sorry for trying it! i'll never do it again
