My suspension is suffering due to old age. I have a 92 240SX coupe that is completely stock, and I'm not too thrilled with the stock ride height and floatiness.

I want a moderate spring/shock setup that will lower the car a little and improve handling. I also don't want to sacrifice ride quality severely, since I'm going to be driving this every day.

I put an Eibach Pro-Kit w/Tokico shocks on my girlfriend's Prelude, and overall it's pretty awesome. It's a bit too low for speed bumps, unfortunately, but otherwise it's a great setup. The ride is stiff but not overly so, and the car's cornering was greatly improved.

Any suggestions for my 240?

Thanks,Mike

This is a no brainer for you but dont get hks hyper d coilover, I hate mine. the ride is horible. If I were going to replace mine i would go with kyb agx adjustables with tein springs.

i have almost the same, tein s.tech, and ill be putting in Koni Yellows this thursday, they are 4 way up front and 6 in the back i believe, BUT, unlike the AGX's, they dont click, so like, you can go 3 1/2, or 2 3/4, so it allows for more fine tuning, ill let u know how they feel!

Pro-Kit with AGXs. cheap enough, some tuning, and great handling with a fairly smooth ride.

I'm with Dareo, the prokits and AGx are great for a daily driver. They dont drop much, but their decently stiff.

Everyone seems to reccomend shock/spring setup. But thats going to cost you around 600 bucks. For only a couple hundred more you can get coilovers with adjustable ride hieght and dampening abilities. SPL parts or underground motorsports both have coilovers at around a grand, both getting great reviews...I would look at both of those. If you ever want to autocross, or drift, or whatever, coilovers would be the better choice...just something to think about...

coilovers are the professional choice to go with. but i heard there is a fair amount of fine tuning to do. if you dont want the hassel, and aren't going to do any competiton autocross, i'd recommend the shock and spring setup.

Well, I got some tein basic coilovers for $750 shipped. If you get a spring/shock setup, its gonna be like $600. Might as well spend the extra $ and get a setup that was MADE for each other. I havent installed them yet, but they ARE height adjustable but NOT dampening adjustable....but if you're just gonna daily drive, then you dont really need dampening adjustability right?

Ok, I'm between the Eibach Pro-Kit/KYB AGX combo, and the Tein Basic Coilover. I read elsewhere that the Tein kit does not come with pillow ball mounts. What does this mean to me? Do I need them? The ones from TEIN are expensive, like $300 for all 4. I'd rather get the Eibach setup if it is going to save me $500...

i helped install, rode in, and drive my buds 89 with tein basic coilovers. there really is no adjustment other than height and i think the ride is awesome for the street. keep it just a little below stock height like your looking for and your set. awesome coilovers imo.

Ok, cool, but my question is: Do I need to buy pillow ball mounts to use the Tein Basic coilover?

would koni yellows outperform the agx's

would the yellows ride softer than agx's?

hey, i use to live in nyc, and with all the crazily unsmooth roads there, the H&R are too stiff, i would say the eibach prokit is softer, and ok for nyc. i had agx too, it was and smooth roads though.

im in LA, cali now, with a new s14, i'd probably go with prokits, and koni yellows here someday. but i need a rear oem sway bar first!! anyone got one for sale?!?

however, i think the ride height on the h and r are perfect.

hks made springs for s13s too i remember, did anyone ever try that?

eibachs are too soft if you plan on autocrossing or stuff.

I just went with a custom coilover build similar to what is on the 240sx.org site and I love it. Overall you could build it yourself relatively cheap. I used QA1 coils at $164 for a set of 4 and you can run any spring rate you want. I'm running 175lb front and 150lb rear and they are stiffer than stock but have a very nice ride. I already had the threaded sleeve and nuts from a cheap ebay coilover kit (bought it for $75 shipped). And I made the upper mounts myself which any machine shop could do for pretty cheap. I am actually still running stock struts and it handles fine (still better than original springs) but you could run any strut you wished. The main thing is you can make it as high or low as you want and if you go with adjustables you can adjust the dampening too and you have a tremendous selection of spring rates that you can play with and swapping springs is very simple once you have tha car setup (I can do all 4 in about 30 mins and dont have to pull the wheels even). And overall I have spent less than $300 for my setup.
