I just watched a guy at the shop I go to give me a walk through of how to replace shocks and springs. After seeing him do it, I'm pissed off that I even paid to have it done. For you diy guys/gals, what kind of spring compressor do you have and where did you get it? I'm not looking for top of the line, just something that does the job.

I have a Craftsman one. Lifetime waranty and it works really well. It also locks too so you do not need to worry about the spring popping all of a sudden. Cost about $40.

That's what I did, and it was sufficient. Honestly, I'll probably pick up a Craftsman spring compressor. It's not something I'll use a lot, but it's nice to have a tool on hand instead of relying on Autozone to have it (and have one that doesn't look all beat to hell).

Yeah I trust Craftsman pretty well. I don't want to rent one because I like to have these tools around for those just-in-case situations. I also plan on lowering my Q45 in the near future, so they'll come in handy. Just wish I could have avoided spending that money on my 240 today

i bought the cheapass ones at advance autoparts. they are hefty enough and got the job done. anyone who pays to get suspension work done is getting ripped (if you have the tools to do it yourself that is, or unless it is an alignment )

I bought mine at Harbor Freight, $9.99. I've used them on few sets of springs. For $10 they're not bad.
