The wife's G has a headlight out. I swapped the good bulb to the bad side, and it works - so I know the ballast is OK. Strangely enough, the bad one failed with a broken tip, still held in place by the wire that runs from the base to the tip...

Anyway, does anyone know of a good discount source for genuine Philips D2R bulbs? I'm just looking for the stock 4300 color temp.

Seems like this vendor sells a lot of them... has anyone had any experience with them? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1x-NEW-OEM-Phil ... 36&vxp=mtr

Thanks!

Heath

Well crap... I think I paid like $80 for that exact bulb. Can't say I have any experience with that vendor unfortunately. As long as you actually receive the part that is shown, it looks like a great deal.

My bulb "burnt out" the same way you described. The glass at the tip cracked and separated from the main part.

Don't feel bad... there are estimates that 80% of HID bulbs on ebay are counterfeit knock-offs. $80 for a genuine bulb is probably a good deal.

I'd love to know if these are part of the 20% that aren't... hard to say I guess.

It's recommended that both bulbs be replaced because over time, the bulbs change color.

I replaced one of mine that went out alone and I didn't (and still don't) notice any difference in color between the old and new.

While $80 isn't inexpensive by any means, the major deterrent for me is actually the 1 hour of work of jacking up the car, removing half the splash guard clips, somehow prying out the old bulb, getting the new one in without letting the glass touch anything (I swear I needed 2 left hands...), and closing it back up.

Or pay a mechanic $100+...

Correct, you need to replace both because of the difference in voltage if you only replace one.

If you are not a vendor here you will need to contact management to discuss selling parts.
