Okay i'm probably silly for telling everyone about this but I did some more research and found another site that I think is part of the syndicate that rockauto.com uses called www.autopartauctions.com. They have unreal low prices on new parts.

for the '91 Q:

$89 ICM$21 REMAN blower motor$11 inner tie rod$8 FRAM trans filter kit$60 REMAN P/S pump?$24 NEW water pump?$24 BECK/ARNLEY rebuilt front brake calipers

so you get the idea, nutty

shipping is $8 first item and $1 rest

Beck Arney is a low cost reman company. Histoically like most reman companies they use cheap bearings, bushings, and seals. The life of the product is just designed to make it thru 12k warranty at best. These products are used by used car lots and some independents to get a car on the road again as cheaply as possible.

I would avoid cheap remans if the labor to replace is high or they serve some critical function like water pump or brakes master cylinder.

It appears that for the Q chain guide parts at least they have gone to oem manufacturer for over productions close outs etc.

T3 buys 97% of replacements from dealer to avoid angry combacks and complaints just after warranty 12k................OH YES over the years we've tried to use cheaper remans but it screwed us every time.

Except Centric Premium Rotors and Tokico shocks..............the worst are alternators, water and steering pumps, master cylinders, injectors.

off topic (sorry). Q45tech: I've finally got a window to make a trip to T3 this week. Please send me an email that I can reply to so I can give a full triage of what I think needs addressing. Thanks

You really need to talk to Ty at the S. Cobb location. Tell him you are on NICO and he may pass it on to Dennis.

Would it be a good idea to get the chain guide procedure parts from rockauto? They had an option for the warehouse closeout parts with a 30 day warranty, but I selected the full manufacturer warranty. I didn't buy anything, I just priced some parts.

Got my part new as advertised but it appears my problems are deeper. I'm going to have to invest in consult rig or goto the d*@l3r - ouch! (high idle)

btw parts are the same they just charge different prices depending on how long of a warranty you wish, maybe try http://www.autopartauctions.com

Wow. That's pretty expensive. Hopefully that figure helps people get an idea of the car's value and to stop treating it like a bucket.
