The car was from an Infiniti Dealership in SoCal and the $26k was their out the door price without the extented Elite warranty and not even Certified. Their original asking price was $31K and lowered to their internet price of $26,995. They wanted me to come up in my price and even called me the next day to see if i had changed my mind. The salesman said if they let the car out the door at $26K i would have gotten a really good deal.. I laughed and said that i had already found other cars with lower milage, one owner good condition cars elsewhere. So it looks like anything under $24K with around 46K miles is what i should be looking at.aidan2474 wrote:I bought my 06 M35X last week, it has Journey and Tech pkg, black on black, spoiler with 32.8k miles, very clean off lease for $22.5 before taxes, somewhere around $24 out the door(Taxes/Tags ect...)
The type of dealer you go to will also determine the markup. Was this an Infiniti dealer? Certified or not, they usually don't budge too much on prices and have extremely high markups. they try to justify it by telling you that it has gone thru the 3 million point safety inspection and they have to pay their mechanics to go over the car and if it doesn't meet their standards then they get rid of the car instead of selling it to a customer. Aggressively selling you on their quality of car.For example I went to an Infiniti dealer who had the same car I bought blk/blk, Tech pkg, even had monitors in the headrests, but it had 70k miles. they originally wanted $23.9k, after negotiating he came down to $22,875 and that was it.
Or was it a general used car dealer? Who usually get their cars from the same place that big dealerships get their cars, the dealer auction. they have less overhead, they also get trade ins as well. I went to a general used car dealer who had an 06 M35X that was fully loaded premium pkg, & it had like 65k miles. They originally wanted $22.8k after negotiating they came down to $21k. It wasn't very clean either, but still not that bad.
In both cases I couldn't pull the trigger on high mileage cars that were out of factory warranty.
I have a few friends who are salesmen and used car dealers with their own lots. The guys at the used car lot that I went to didn't know me at all. They had a red M35X, told them I didn't like red and they said they could find the car I was looking for. I told them the specifics of what I was looking for and they offered to take me to the dealer auction to make sure I got what I wanted. (I was allowed in by saying I was their driver). I saw what the cars were going for coming off lease and I was surprised at the high prices. Clean M35X's with nav and Tech pkg and low miles were in the $21.5 to $22.5 range, at the dealer auction, then the dealer has to pay the auction fee($400) and taxes.
I had showed a very similar car with lower milage to the floor manager from a competing Infiniti dealer and how much lower their price was. His reply was "well that car isn't probably as in good a condition as ours and there must be a good reason they're selling it so cheap". So if you're friend is correct in how a dealer won't just take in and resell any used car then this dealers claim isn't valid about another dealers car.NightWatch wrote:I disagree that most Infiniti Dealerships get most of their used cars at auction. I have a buddy who works as a salesman at the dealership where I buy my cars. Infiniti has a set of standards that must be met for a used car to remain at the dealership and be re-sold. They don't even keep the majority of Infiniti trade-ins that come in on new vehicles. They ship them off to auction. My G35 Coupe was in mint condition in appearance and mechanical. It would have been a real cherry ride for some yonger person buying their first Infiniti. They declined to keep the car at the dealership because 2 years prior I was rear-ended by someone. Very minor damage - only the rear bumpmer skin, no metal was even bent. Yet with that on the car's record they refused to keep it there and re-sell it because it could affect their reputation. They're not going to have a used car on their lot unless they feel comfortable about it that its a good vehicle.
The dealer did provide me with a copy of the carfax and it showed it as a lease return and had one owner. That was his selling point. I asked if he could provide me records of maint. but he said the car wasn't serviced at his dealership so no records can be found...Do any of you know if dealers can cross reference other dealers to see maint. records on cars that were worked on using the VIN number?NightWatch wrote:Just make sure you get service records for the car. If they can't provide them... personally I'd walk away. Also, a CarFax report couldn't hurt either when you're spending that kind of money.
Thanks, i asked the salesman about seeing if he could find previous maint. records using the VIN and he said no.. guess he wasn't fully informed on how it works with Infiniti dealers. This is assuming that the car was maintined at an Infiniti dealer since it was leased.NightWatch wrote:All Infiniti Dealers are linked to the Infiniti USA database that maintains all records of service on any vehicle brought in. You can buy a car in Chicago, move to Atlanta and have it serviced there and then while on a trip to California need something serviced, take it to an Infiniti dealer and they know everything about your car that has ever been done at an Infiniti Dealer by you, any previous owner, leasor, or pre-sale by the dealer. These records are available to any current owner of the vehicle. It is part of Infiniti's "Total Ownership Experience".
Thanks for the info.. No wonder they dropped it down. Lets see how much longer it sits on the lot before they lower it again. I mean i know dealers are out to make a profit.. but some of them are out there to make a killing..DashingMax wrote:$31k...HA HA!! That dealer is nuts!

The one i went to was north of LA off the 101... I've been looking at some cars further up north like , SF, Oakland, Elk Grove or Santa Rosa. they had good deals just not the color combo i wanted. I've also been looking outside the state but more like Utah, AZ and Vegas. None had what i was looking for...m-licious wrote:what dealers have you been to in SoCal. I found South Bay to be very "take it or leave it" and then when I left, immediately called me as I was pulling out to ask me to make another offer. Mission Viejo was very nice, just couldn't get the car I wanted. Cerritos didn't really try to make a deal. their internet guy for new cars was kinda of an a**. I didn't spend much time at Tustin.
There are several used dealers on cars.com (including Jstar in San Juan Capo with a nice DGM m45s) that have some nice vehicles. they won't have the infiniti extended service plan, but if you are willing to forego that, the price will prob be in your alley.
