Hi guys , looking into a 06 M45 Sport to replace my totaled M3. Went to a dealer here in SoCal and they wanted $26k + out the door for a Umbria with 45K miles. It has the tech and journey package with the spoiler kits. Is this a good price? The car had one owner and some cosmetic scratches on the bumper and fenders but they might come out when buffed. Just wanted your takes on it..

Thanks,Gil

Very expensive. Somewhere around $22K would be a good starting point.

thats what i was thinking but the floor manager kept insisting that he was losing big money if he were to give me that price. He was proudly saying he was already knocking it down from their original price of $31k. I was even showing him other listings from other dealers that were lower. He blew those prices off saying they probably had cars that were in horrible condition. So my search continues.

can those that got good deals care to chime in and what you got your cars for with milage and options? i want to make sure i don't make an uninformed decision as far as getting a good price.

2007 M35, Journey, Tech, new tires, black on black, tinted windows, mint condition, 28k miles---- $23k plus tax. An M45, in California anyway, generally is worth less than an M35. And a Sport model isn't necessarily worth more than a Base either. An '06 M45 with almost twice the miles as my M35 should go for around $19k-$22k based on current market conditions in my opinion.

I bought mine in November in Hayward, CA, and at the time, they had an '06 M35 Sport with 40k miles for $21k (and that was the asking price.) I'm sure I could have gotten that one for $19.5k.

06 M45 Sport with Journey package and DVD system with 12k miles on it. Paid 27.5k

I saw a fully loaded M45 Sport around here with 55k miles on it and they were asking 21k so that dealer was asking way too much. then again, with spring on the way they might be raising prices. I have seen 06 M45's with sometime less or more miles and they were asking for under 20k for a few of them. I just took mine since it had so few miles on it. I would say check in surrounding states and see how the prices compare. you have to remember that even though gas has gone down, it's slowly trickling back up so a V8 will be less searched for than a V6, at least in my opinion, so it might give you somewhat of a good bargaining chip.

Some of you got some deals. When I bought this one with 26K for $25K. If it had under 20K on it the cost was $29K and up. Only time I found one around $22k mileage was kinda high around 45K or so and that was without options. I got a base sport. I just looked and now around 25k miles they are going for $28K. Glad I bought when I did and that is a 200 mile radius of middle TN.

the mileage is a little high but if the price includes infiniti extended warranty than i'd say you're not too far off. if they'll wiggle a little more i think it'd be a decent deal. heck, you could sell your sport wheels to make a few extra bucks here.

I bought my 06 M35X last week, it has Journey and Tech pkg, black on black, spoiler with 32.8k miles, very clean off lease for $22.5 before taxes, somewhere around $24 out the door(Taxes/Tags ect...)

The type of dealer you go to will also determine the markup. Was this an Infiniti dealer? Certified or not, they usually don't budge too much on prices and have extremely high markups. they try to justify it by telling you that it has gone thru the 3 million point safety inspection and they have to pay their mechanics to go over the car and if it doesn't meet their standards then they get rid of the car instead of selling it to a customer. Aggressively selling you on their quality of car.For example I went to an Infiniti dealer who had the same car I bought blk/blk, Tech pkg, even had monitors in the headrests, but it had 70k miles. they originally wanted $23.9k, after negotiating he came down to $22,875 and that was it.

Or was it a general used car dealer? Who usually get their cars from the same place that big dealerships get their cars, the dealer auction. they have less overhead, they also get trade ins as well. I went to a general used car dealer who had an 06 M35X that was fully loaded premium pkg, & it had like 65k miles. They originally wanted $22.8k after negotiating they came down to $21k. It wasn't very clean either, but still not that bad.

In both cases I couldn't pull the trigger on high mileage cars that were out of factory warranty.

I have a few friends who are salesmen and used car dealers with their own lots. The guys at the used car lot that I went to didn't know me at all. They had a red M35X, told them I didn't like red and they said they could find the car I was looking for. I told them the specifics of what I was looking for and they offered to take me to the dealer auction to make sure I got what I wanted. (I was allowed in by saying I was their driver). I saw what the cars were going for coming off lease and I was surprised at the high prices. Clean M35X's with nav and Tech pkg and low miles were in the $21.5 to $22.5 range, at the dealer auction, then the dealer has to pay the auction fee($400) and taxes.

I disagree that most Infiniti Dealerships get most of their used cars at auction. I have a buddy who works as a salesman at the dealership where I buy my cars. Infiniti has a set of standards that must be met for a used car to remain at the dealership and be re-sold. They don't even keep the majority of Infiniti trade-ins that come in on new vehicles. They ship them off to auction. My G35 Coupe was in mint condition in appearance and mechanical. It would have been a real cherry ride for some yonger person buying their first Infiniti. They declined to keep the car at the dealership because 2 years prior I was rear-ended by someone. Very minor damage - only the rear bumpmer skin, no metal was even bent. Yet with that on the car's record they refused to keep it there and re-sell it because it could affect their reputation. They're not going to have a used car on their lot unless they feel comfortable about it that its a good vehicle.

The car was from an Infiniti Dealership in SoCal and the $26k was their out the door price without the extented Elite warranty and not even Certified. Their original asking price was $31K and lowered to their internet price of $26,995. They wanted me to come up in my price and even called me the next day to see if i had changed my mind. The salesman said if they let the car out the door at $26K i would have gotten a really good deal.. I laughed and said that i had already found other cars with lower milage, one owner good condition cars elsewhere. So it looks like anything under $24K with around 46K miles is what i should be looking at.

Just make sure you get service records for the car. If they can't provide them... personally I'd walk away. Also, a CarFax report couldn't hurt either when you're spending that kind of money.

I had showed a very similar car with lower milage to the floor manager from a competing Infiniti dealer and how much lower their price was. His reply was "well that car isn't probably as in good a condition as ours and there must be a good reason they're selling it so cheap". So if you're friend is correct in how a dealer won't just take in and resell any used car then this dealers claim isn't valid about another dealers car.

He's trying to make a sale, what's he supposed to say? A lot depends on what they paid for the car they're trying to sell. If they paid a higher price for it than the other dealer they're not going to sell it at a loss until they have to, they'll just wait it out for a while hoping that eventually someone will come along and buy it.

You are right Nightwatch,.. Most Infiniti dealerships don't get their cars at auctions and I didn't say that Infiniti dealerships get most of their cars at auction. I said "Or was it a general used car dealer? Who usually get their cars from the same place that big dealerships get their cars, the dealer auction."

I was referring to other big dealerships like Nissan and so forth. Infiniti dealers usually have very few used cars compared to their new car inventory. I may not have been clear on this point, but that is what I meant. Also I was right that they(Infiniti Dealers) do aggressively sell the quality of their cars, seeing how they didn't keep your car, which had less than minor damage.

Nightwatch is also correct they will put down others cars saying they are not up to the Infiniti standard for a used car, no matter if it is certified or not. They say this in part because they really believe it, also because they are trying to make a sale. The Infiniti salesman called me for about 2 or 3 weeks after I test drove it. I ruled out buying my car at an Infiniti Dealer because of the high markup.

Like Nightwatch said, they shipped his cherry ride to the auction, where another dealership (Used or New) will have it at a cheaper price.

It took me two months to find mine.

$23-$24k for about 46k miles sounds about right. You might be able to get lower miles for the same $.

i understand that they're trying to make the sale and that they won't sell it at a loss but i'm sure they didn't pay close to what they are selling it for. I mean they originally had the window sticker that i saw at $31K then they dropped it to $26995 and were willing to let it go for $26K out the door.

The dealer did provide me with a copy of the carfax and it showed it as a lease return and had one owner. That was his selling point. I asked if he could provide me records of maint. but he said the car wasn't serviced at his dealership so no records can be found...Do any of you know if dealers can cross reference other dealers to see maint. records on cars that were worked on using the VIN number?

All Infiniti Dealers are linked to the Infiniti USA database that maintains all records of service on any vehicle brought in. You can buy a car in Chicago, move to Atlanta and have it serviced there and then while on a trip to California need something serviced, take it to an Infiniti dealer and they know everything about your car that has ever been done at an Infiniti Dealer by you, any previous owner, leasor, or pre-sale by the dealer. These records are available to any current owner of the vehicle. It is part of Infiniti's "Total Ownership Experience".

Thanks, i asked the salesman about seeing if he could find previous maint. records using the VIN and he said no.. guess he wasn't fully informed on how it works with Infiniti dealers. This is assuming that the car was maintined at an Infiniti dealer since it was leased.

Thanks for the info.. No wonder they dropped it down. Lets see how much longer it sits on the lot before they lower it again. I mean i know dealers are out to make a profit.. but some of them are out there to make a killing..

I would suggest looking at the Ebay completed items. You can access it from the advanced search. This will give you a great idea of what dealers are willing to sell the cars at and what people are actually paying.

I bought the black on black M45 from Dallas. Some on here might say I overpayed, but in my local market the dealers were asking $30,000. Even with the $200 flight, I feel great about the price.

what dealers have you been to in SoCal. I found South Bay to be very "take it or leave it" and then when I left, immediately called me as I was pulling out to ask me to make another offer. Mission Viejo was very nice, just couldn't get the car I wanted. Cerritos didn't really try to make a deal. their internet guy for new cars was kinda of an a**. I didn't spend much time at Tustin.

There are several used dealers on cars.com (including Jstar in San Juan Capo with a nice DGM m45s) that have some nice vehicles. they won't have the infiniti extended service plan, but if you are willing to forego that, the price will prob be in your alley.

The one i went to was north of LA off the 101... I've been looking at some cars further up north like , SF, Oakland, Elk Grove or Santa Rosa. they had good deals just not the color combo i wanted. I've also been looking outside the state but more like Utah, AZ and Vegas. None had what i was looking for...
