good parts???

I've heard a lot of different things concerning who makes good parts for what, both from checking out the forums and from asking friends I have here at school that fix up there cars. I'm not sure how you differentiate between the brands to find out which is better. Are they all the same and it's just preference or what. I know Greddy, A'pexi, blitz and HKS are fairly decent companies but, again, not sure how to tell one is better than another. If you guys have any imput on the brands. Like who makes better exhausts, intercoolers and etc.

One more ?, sorry about the length, on suspension. What's the difference between Whiteline, Tein and JIC-Magic. My room mate, who's always pouring money into his car told me that one has softer springs or something like that. I know absolutely nothing about suspension, and I did read the FAQ. But how do I know which is better. I plan on using my car as an everyday driver but doing some serious drving on the weekends or whenever I have some time.
