I bought a 94 Q45T a few years back. I wasn't expensive, the leather was perfect, and it had complete maintenance records from day one. Thought I'd just drive it until it turned to dust (they don't rust here). UNFORTUNATELY, I LOVE this car and have been seduced into super maintaining it. I do a lot, and have an excellent tech for the other stuff, but I'd like to develop a list of reliable sources for good quality parts. I'd prefer to keep it stock, though I did put the blue Tokicos on it and 17" wheels from a 2003Q. I'm sure this forum is crawling with good places to get parts, but being new, I thought I'd ask. Thanks!

Well, yeah! Check out the sponsors.

My favorite for years has been the crew at http://www.everythinginfiniti.com because not only do they have great prices, but they have great service which they back-up.

Be sure to read all of Q45tech's posts to see if you are up to snuff on your maintenance schedule. You are also fortunate to be near T-3 if anything major is ever required.

Welcome in, friend.

Thanks. The everythinginfiniti site looks good, but you never know how reliable someone is without references. Mainenance is up to snuff as far as factory specs, but the posts clearly show some things that are outside the published specs. That was the one nice thing about my Mercedes era. MB's schedule goes to 1,000,000 miles and the mtnce requirements are very detailed (that's why they're so expensive to maintain). Where is T-3?

Reading all of Q45tech's posts will get beyond even the MB manual because he explains why and provides data from research and his own experiments.

Definitely! If I lived with a hundred miles of them, I would use them exclusively for sure. I think you are not too much further than that, right?

I'm about 45 miles away. I have a wonderful general purpose mechanic who is very honest about what he's uncomfortable with - he does performance work with Bill Elloitt's racing team, for example, but he won't touch foreign trannies. He has tow other higher mileage Q45's (one with 325,000 miles) he maintains and he's had the plenum off a time or two so he knows the ugly bits. Dealers aren't an option for me because they're too far away and very costly.

I sure appreciate your interest and am looking forward to getting to know the forum members better. I was a fanatic with my old Z-car (I'm old enough to have bought one of the 1971.5 models when it was new) and spent thousands on totally needless but satisfying upgrades like solid bushings, trimmed springs, ported/polished head, etc. It's been fun reading about others doing similar things to their Q's. I am fortunate enough to be able to have owned a number of new high end cars and really believed the first gen Q's were both special, and would still be competitive today.

As AZhitman said, welcome to the site. I joined several months ago and the amount of shared knowledge on here is fantastic! Almost anything one would need to know can be found here. I hope you enjoy it and hopefully we'll see you at a meet sometime in the future.

As others have said, welcome aboard, and it's neat to hear someone your mech friend has done some work with Awesome-Bill from Dawsonville .

Enjoy yourself, and be careful, the OEM till I die crowd and the there's gotta be something cheaper and better crowd can clash at times .

Many thanks, everyone. I'm not here to build the best Q45 in the world, nor to restore it to perfection. I'm in it to have the best car for me. It looks good, but not perfect - so I can park it up front at the grocery store. It's in (pretty darn near) perfect mechanical condition, so it's worth the 17" wheels, hi buck tires, and Tokicos, 'cause I like the twisties. Otherwise, it's bone stock. It was cheap to buy, so if engine blow up and I have to walk home, I'll just buy another one. On the other hand, the seats always had sheepkins on them, so I am the first person ever actually to sit on the leather. It was just one of those cars you had to have...

Nice thing about the cheaper and better vs OEM discussions is that I can pick and choose.

Oh, by the way... does the strut brace make a significant difference on this car, or does it just feel good to have one? I don't perceive any chassis flex.

It makes a definite difference.

Ever wonder why all Q45 other than G50 have them OEM?

Good point. Most of the one I see are from Stillen, but there have been some posts questioning Stillen's quality. For us newbies, it;s hard to tell if these are legit or smack from competitors. Any recommendations?

Member Jeff Willimas was buying the Maxima ones and modifying them. I bought one from his first or second batch and can tell a diff. He has the "How To" listed somewhere, but for me it was easier to buy it already done.

Search for a thread with FSTB in it, and posts by Jeff Williams.

I can vouch for Jeff's FSTB. I put one on and it made a noticeable difference in front end sure-footedness.

As far as parts, just spend some time in the Infiniti Classifieds forum and you'll develop all the contacts you need. I'd say stay away from JWT parts if you can....just because of the ridiculous prices. Only thing I ever brought from them was solid tensions rods... and those were over $300.

I can vouch for T3. Byron fixed Lola right up. She purrs like a kitten.

You have to met Dennis. He truely understands the Q45.

Email me, and I can send you the instructions to modify your own bar, or install one I have modified.
