Hey, I'm going in later to a stereo shop to look at some pager alarms. And I was curious as to what actually are some really good ones. I don't want to get rid of my key flob. I already know I want one that has a range of 1 mile. But I'm not too sure on what the good brands are. I know it'll be pricey, but that's ok.

Any suggestions?

Quite a few people here have AutoPage systems.

I have the AutoPage RS-1000.

+3 on the autopage RS-1000... I have that and I love it... my remote has gone out on me twice, but I got it replaced at my local shop for free...

The other reputable company is DEI... they carry these major brands

Viper, Hornet, Clifford, Python, Avital.... all of these are the EXACT same products, just with different names on them... look here

http://www.directed.com/

the top of the line remotes are supposed to be the best, however, DEI has had a LOT of issues with their OLED remotes(i.e. Viper 7900) .. so if you're gonna go with viper.. the Viper 5901 is the best one out...

if you go with Autopage, the RS-1000 is the top of the line with color OLED screen and motion graphics...

for each company I mentioned, they have ultra high security alarms that allow you to control the car from your cell phone or the internet. They have GPS monitors that allow remote start, vehicle unlock, etc from both your phone and your internet.

For Autopage, its the C3 system... http://www.c3autopageusa.com/

for DEI, its an add on unit as well http://www.drdetailshop.com/v200review.htm

This is all gonna happen tomorrow, along with the installation. I'll let you guys know tomorrow how much I paid for it.

OK, what you want to ask him is what the price is gonna be "out the door" that includes taxes unless you're paying in cash

yes, there's an extra module that costs like $80 if you don't want to give up your key fob! Also, DO NOT get the trunk release module, its redundant and doesn't work as well as the factory one anyway!

The RS-1000 is not a new model, it is last year's model, actually it came out in 2007, so I don't know what your guy is talking about... he may be talking about the RS-900C#, which is the new version, one step below the RS-1000, but works with the C3 GPS system I spoke of earlier!

I kept the fob. I didn't like the idea of having my key hidden in the car.

How do you get rid of the fob? Dont you need it to start your car?

I have a CompuStar 2WFM-AS-PRO alarm pager/remote start it works great and has a really long range. The remote start is a little annoying because I have a 6MT but it is worth it, it gets damn cold here!

what she's asking is who paid for the module (can sl2) that allows you to NOT have to hide a key fob in the car for the remote start to work.

Also, what do you mean your works great? Didn't you just create a thread over the holidays about your remote reading fail even when you're right next to the car?

I have the 2 way Compustar Pro model as well. I have never heard of autopage here in Canada. Unless its rare.

Do you guys pay more for the cell phone paging?? And how much did it cost for the unit installed, roughly??

I think you are thinking of 'Coupeguy23' he started a post in the audio/video section (where this one should probably be).

My remote start/pager works awesome I have never been out a range yet and thankfully I have not had my alarm triggered yet. Its also nice because I can check the temperature in my engine bay so I can tell when my car has warmed up. Does anyone know how to set up the AUX feature on the remote to turn on my rear defroster?

it went great. I ended up getting it installed Wednesday after I got my car back from the tint shop to get the alarm installed because my guy was really busy on Tuesday. I ended up paying $180 total. That's for the AutoPage RS-1000, and the CAN SL2. He didn't charge me for labor.

Wow...you definitely got the hook up of hook ups on that...So how do you like it so far? How did your guy do the setup for you in terms of you remote starting and getting in the car?

My guy set it up where I remote start the car, then when I'm ready I unlock it with the OLED remote, then get in the car then I have to hit the Start button twice to go from ACC to On, then I can hit the break to shift gears and go. If I hit the break when I get in the car it shuts off.

free labor = win! He also only charged you like half price on the actual alarm... somebody must've went in there with a short mini sirt on showing some leg

do you have a stick? when set up correctly, you should be able to just get in the car and pres the brake, and the car automatically switches from off to ACC to ON without pressing the button!

wow...

I'm in the market for a good alarm/auto-starter... and RS-900 and RS-1000 looks pretty good. What is the difference between them anyway?? hehe

Anyway... I'm sold... I'm about to order RS-1000 or 900 from eBay... and was just wondering... is there any other module that I'll need for it to work on my A/C which is CVT? I dont want to take only RS1000 to a shop for installation and get charged an arm and leg for a extra module that I could have got for cheap. Also... was there any firmware update required?

Thanks a bunch

Kango, buying an alarm from ebay and getting installed is only gonna save ~ 100 bucks or so...

go to your local install shop, and ask them what they would charge for an RS-1000 installed purchsed from them vs one you bought off the internet.

sometimes, shops charge more for labor when you don't by the product from them

also, they won't honor the warranty of a product purchased off the internet.. ity a bteer idea all around to just get the item from the store that will install it... makes warranty issues a lot easier!

also, the RS 900 is compatible with the C3 cell phone system, while the 1000 is not.. also, the 900 only has an lcd screen, wth non animated notifications.. the 1000 has a color OLED screen with animation!

hmm.. I c... well... I'm going to a shop through a friend of mine and will not be charged for labor and from what I heard... autopage is a pretty reputable company so reliability should be good. I'm not worried about warranty. =) Also... I'm not planning on doing that whole cell phone thing. I just love the look of OLED remote so I'll be going with RS-1000 . but thanks for your advise though.

now... I read something above about can-sl2. Do I HAVE to have this for remote start and alarm to work???

Thank you

As I've mentioned in other posts, I'm on my third OLED remote with my Autopage RS-1000, had I gone the route you're thinking, I'd be out an additional $300, or I would have had to wait for a replacement remote rather than just walking in the shop and getting the remote hooked up to my alarm, and walking back out! Its your money, do with it what you want, but if your friend is gonna install it for free, sems like you should get a deal on a store warrantied version of the alarm as well

you asked about the differences in the 900 vs the 1000, that's why I mentioned

the can-sl2 (and modules like it) exist to communicate with your car's computer.. it allows you to get the remote start and NOt have to give up one of your key fobs. So its not necessary for the alarm itself, but is necessary for the remote start aspect of the alarm (some folks get the alarm only for the 2 way paging features, and don't want the remote start, thus they don't need this extra module). This module should run you an extra $80 from a dealer, or $50 if you buy it offline!

here's info on the unit http://ifar.ca/en/products/fla....html

also, if you put those stripes on your Altima (like the ones in your avatar) I will no longer give you advise! j/k

bump...

rjdmmfl1... just out of curiosity... how did you break or go through 2 remotes and now on third? I finally found a shop that has successfully installed alarm/starter on 07 and up altimas. He told me that... RS-1000 is a great unit except for the remote. He told me to make sure I always have juice in the remote and dont drain out the battery or it'll go dead for good. What do you think?

Thank you!
