first i just want to say hi to everyone here. this is my first post but ive been looking on here for a while because i hope to be getting a 240 soon and want to do an SR swap and i want to be ready for any problems that might come up technical or otherwise. and from what i could gather, sr's arent the best at smog tests here in good ol so cal. lol. i dont know much about cars or engines yet, let alone the processes to get them certified so dont get to upset if i say something wrong! (only 17... so naive haha)

onto the point: the state refs in california have been suspended.

to be honest im not quite sure what goes on with them, or what they actually do heh, but its been causing a lot of buzz on other forums with people usually expressing their happiness that they are gone (if someone would explain, that would be great). I just thought i'd let you guys know because i didnt see it anywhere else on here, but it was only a quick search so sorry if its already been posted hahaha.

They are suspended because as of right now the state government can't come to an agreement on the budget AGAIN!! therefore they have suspended alot of non essencial governement functions. Rest assure once they finally get a budget passed all of that will be reinstated. I say a couple weeks probably. This is one program that wont go away because the state of california has a deadline to meet over all emission measurements as set by the federal EPA. If the state can not clean up its air by a certain amount in a specific time frame the feds will eventually take over the emission control of california. This state overall has a very high pollution rate as compared to other states. Thats why there are strict smog laws here.

As said probably a million times on this forum and many others, the SR20DET is not smog legal in the states. It was never tested by the federal EPA as a new motor so therefore it can not be used on public roadways.
