Here's the response from Libero USA we got today from email...

"QUOTE"

Dear Mr. Olsen, First and foremost, we would like to apologize for the inconvenience this transaction has caused you. Our regular standing on all high performance engines will be, "as is no warranty", unless the problem has occurred or discovered during the first 5 days from receiving the items. This item was purchased on 03/06/03, which is past even the warranty for a stock transmission. Although this specific engine has been thoroughly checked by our mechanic (compression, cylinder leak test, and rod knock), and tested in good condition, it still hard to determine any other things that may be in bad condition since the nature of this engine is a high performance used. Furthermore, opening up the engine will normally void the warranty, even on stock engines, if it is not authorized by us. However, the pictures you have sent us shows a very unusual sign of foreign objects and wear and tear we have never seen before or can explain. What we can offer to you is a full refund for the items upon arriving to our facility and checking them. We will pay for the incoming shipping, but we cannot refund the outgoing freight charges already paid by you. Please contact us anytime to discuss this matter or to schedule a pick up. We will be open until 5:00pm PST, and also open tomorrow (Saturday) from 8:00am to 1:00pm PST. We will contact you later this afternoon. Thank you for your understanding. Jeff NishiSales / Libero U.S.A., Inc.15507 South BroadwayGardena, CA 90247(800) 717-6194 / (310) 715-6194(310) 715-6899 FAX[email protected]

I guess that's good...I have to admit they handled it responsibly...what do ya'll think?

Good deal.... looks like they are trying to make this straight with you. Even though you will be out almost 200 bucks for reshipping.

yeah...I'm just gonna get my $400 back, and keep the transmission. I'm only out the $200 I paid to have the thing shipped here...they're paying to ship it back. Ideally the thing to do would be to send back the head, and have the cylinder walls honed and new pistons put back in...Paul has pistons and Ray has a head...but Libero wants the entire engine back to give me my $400 back, so at this point I'm like take your damn engine back!

I'll figure something out soon! I'm making quite abit working 50 hour work week...2 jobs...Nissan tech, and China Garden Restraunt Delivery boy :D

Thanks for the help and support guys, I'll let you know whats going on!

well i would say ask daunt, but ive heard some bad things about how long it takes for the engines to get there, try http://www.heavythrottle.com i hear they are a little bit more expensive than afterdark, but they ship in like 2-6 weeks and have good motors

long block...dont need any of the other crap. As far as I know none of the companies that are discussed here on a regular basis have a long block only! They sell motor sets and clips...I have an ecu. I have a wiring harness. I have a transmission. I have an ignitor and every other sensor etc. I only need the block, head, manifolds, and turbo...and the turbo doesn't even need to be there! Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks,Sean

EDIT: I would never EVER buy anything from Dauntt...he seems like a good guy so I'm not not knocking on him, but his business skills need some work...I'd have to see quite afew happy customers before I'd give him a chance!

looking for a long block? just go get a CA18ET from the junkyard and have oil squirters installed and buy a crank girlde from someone. then you wouldnt have to worry about shipping. just a thought. congrats on the refund, thats mighty nice of them!!

a crank girlde is a grid looking thing that is bolted over the main caps on the bottom of the motor to keep tehm from moving around under hi HP/hi rev applications. the stock CA18ET doesnt have one, the CA18DET does.

oil squirters from what I have gathered, is a relatively simple procedure of drilling and taping a hole into the main oil gally in your block and simply screwing them in. good luck finding some tho, I dont know who carries them. they look like a little nozzle shape thing and it just squirts oil on the bottom of the piston

sean, first off, if you get another motor dont plan on just throwing it on their, at least check the rod bearings and take off the head this time. and if you want imagination can send the engine in from us and you will get a super deal if you want to have the crank reground for new bearings and such, hopefully the next engine you get will have good pistons so you wont ave to go through the whole engine break in period b.s.

don't worry timmy. I won't just throw it in... this next motor is being put off long enough for me to have the money to make a real monster...now that i've had some experience and I've pulled apart a CA, i'd like to do more internal stuff...also situations with you (having access to a shop:D) and me (working at Nissan) have made it a more appealing idea!

also the fact that I now know some more locals who build engines, estevan, paul, and ray, make it easier to find help too! not that you NICO guys aren't good for info, but most of you are in the process of building, rather than having built already high hp CA's yourselves! Its ok though, we're all learning together:D
