Quote »The 17,673 hardware units was enough for the 360 to beat both the PS2 and PS3! Yes, the 360 is now the second hottest console in Japan (next to the Wii).[/quote]That's also great news for us. If the 360 stays hot in Japan it's going to be much more likely for us to see more titles from Japanese developers. As a big JRPG fan, I would love to see this.

It's important to note that these figures are only over a period of a week, but it definitely shows a trend. AFAIK the 360 was doing horrible over there. 17,000+ units in one week is very respectable when you're dealing overseas against Nintendo and Sony.

Sony is making the same mistakes the original Xbox made in Japan. The PS3 is big, ugly, and the software library blows. I'm glad to see Sony being outsold. Bring them down to reality.

the PS3 may be big, but i find it more esthetically pleasing than the 360. and the library is finally picking up steam (took about as long as the 360 did to get any noteworthy titles imho)

and it is selling pretty close to the same amount of consoles that the 360 did in its first year.

i really don't see either of the consoles fading away. both consoles have their strengths and weaknesses, and it is nice to see developers like infinity ward (COD4) finally using the PS3 and xbox's strengths accordingly instead of sending the PS3 a halfass port. this generation they are going to either co-develop on each console, or develope on the PS3 and port it to the 360 .and i am not saying this because i find the 360 to be the weaker console, but because from some developer interviews (like midway) are saying it is easier to adapt code from the PS3 to the 360 than the other way around.

From what I have seen and heard, most companies are developing the game separately on each system. It helps to optimize the game for each console, but it seems to produce more differences between the two versions. Hopefully in time things will change.

I dont think either system is going anywhere either. The main reason why I posted this is because its very big for Microsoft to outsell Nintendo and Sony in their own country. That's a big deal for them. Microsoft has been notoriously ****ty in that market.

actually while its good for the gamer its bad for the developers since both userbases are not big enough to really support the development cost. thats why your really only seeing it in AAA games and why porting will still be the most common way to get a game to another system.

They are doing it one better. MS paid a pretty penny to get the exclusive downloadable content for the game. I heard they are planning on releasing two chapters to the game via Xbox Live, much like Oblivion. I can't wait.
