Last night I finally got my sr running and it starts up and idle's perfect the only problem is after it idled for about 5 minutes my exhaust manifold was glowing red at the collector cause it was so hot, we are thinking the turbo is bad and not spinning fast enough to get the exhaust gas though it fast enough and is building up a lot of heat. Sound right to you guys? I have a aftermarket exhaust manifold and a brand new forcedperformance t28.

At idle the turbo wheel should barely be spinning since the wastegate would be wide open. Are you sure you have the proper wastegate vacuum signal? Boost gauge?

my hotpipe didnt have a nipple on it for the wastegate line so im running it to the same line as my boost gauge going to the fpr and throttle body. are you thinking the wastegate may be somehow staying closed and spinning at max the entire time?

At idle & all vaccuum conditions, the wastegate is shut. It only opens when the actuator sees a set boost pressure. I don't know why your manifold is so hot that it's glowing red like that. Some thing is clogged in the exhaust?

if the car is running very lean it will cause the exhaust to be hotter. this will make the manifold red. Make sure you aren't leaning out.

lol yeah i just relized that when i said that stupid post before, my bad. I have a heavythrottle stage 1 turbo kit w/ denso 550cc injectors, jwt ecu and the fpt28 and with the ecu i highly doubt the car is lean. the turbine in the turbo does not spin freely if you spin it it spins about 2in and then stops so im thinking the bearings are bad.

The turbo shouldn't be bad if you bought a stage 1 kit from HT. Are you sure your timing is right?

my timing is right on, im pretty sure its the turbo but forced performance has a 1 year warantee so im going to send it to them and have them rebuild it.
