Hi All,

I was just thinking the other day, if 325+ HP Cameros and Mustangs are getting 30+MPG highway, while the 280HP 06 M gets only 23, maybe the Engine should be swapped out?
What would this entail? Would it be possible (or a good idea) to retrofit a powerful and economical new engine from Ford, Nissan, GM, Etc?

The VQ35DE is great, but it just drinks way too much gas.

Do it and let us know how it goes! Do a write up of the build!

Engine swaps are hit and miss. But it takes one person to set the trend. Good luck.

Right now, I'm thinking that if I have any major engine problem, I will go this direction.
I'd love to be a trend setter, but I'd also love for it to work out of the box and not be a nightmare. I've seen the Nissan Titan engine in an 06 m35, and it seemed to work alright, despite being a fair bit larger than the original.

The M35 has an engine bay designed to fit a 4.5 liter V8, so you have plenty of room to play with.

Very interesting... So theoretically, any four, six or eight cylinder engine under the sun could be adapted to this car..?

In that case, I might go with something like this: http://wardsauto.com/news-amp-analysis/ ... d-dohc-v-6

Or, a nice Diesel from VW... Anybody have links to Ms with non-Nissan engines?

I'm guessing you'd need to change the transmission too. I don't think it's the engine that is inefficient in these cars.

2012 Camaro LT
V6 323 HP
17MPG city / 28MPG hwy
Zero to sixty: 6.1 seconds

THe VQ gets about the same :gotme

Pathetic that the Camaro needs 50 more HP for the same 0-60 time :chuckle:

Looks like the company agrees to some extent. Here is a report that Infiniti will be dropping V8s from the entire fleet of cars:
