eh, that doesn't look bad, but you better make sure that has all the pieces you're gonna need for your piping. It would be easier to just go out and measure things up and buy the pieces you need individually.

THat's a good start...

For example, the GReddy kits are:

Hot pipe: 90* bend out of the engine bay, straight 6" long piece, another 90* bend.

Then out of the intercooler: ~110* bend, then a 45* bend, then another 90* to the throttle body.

That looks like more than enough piping to do the job...

*BUT*...$179 + $35 shipping is kinda high...you could buy those same mandrel bends off JEGS.com for $15 each...and cheap silicone couplers are exactly that...cheap.

I would weld it if I were you...mock it up, duct tape the pieces to gether...take them out as one piece, and have it welded. Easy.

ebay crx cold air intakes are like 35 bucks and it gives a bunch of 2.5" bends. With some cheap connectors and a bend or two from jegs and your set. Although a complete intercooler kit from greddy is the way I would go next time around. With the price of a nice intercooler , piping, connectors you end up paying 200 less that if you bought a good looking kit.

i was searching around some more and found this kit. all aluminum pipe but i was thinking that 2.75" is a lil big but wont kill me. i would just get bends made where they will be needed. any info on this kit. any info on the fmic on ebay also. i know they wont be as good as some name brand ones but i am on a budget here so i was thinking maybe a medium sized IC and making up my tubing with the kit below.

That one is not good, I used 4 Integra CAIs to make my piping, and they have a LOT of bends for the money. $120 shipped.

4 intergra cai systems. how many freaking pipes do you need. and did u do any additional bending or just use what you needed and connected with couplers?

you can make all the measurements and decide what kind of bends you want, and then look in The Big Book by MSC industrial supply company and order the size of aluminum tubing you want and have a local machine/muffler shop bend it for you.

That would take REALLY precise work, and believe me even when you are right there with sufficient piping, things never just fall into place.

I cut the intakes up like I needed and weled them together into 3 pipes. One hot pipe and 2 cold pipes connected by a couper. And welded two bends onto my FMIC, because it's inlet design permitted a shorter than usual path to the engine bay. I think I've posted my pics of those... here they are:

Oh and I actually have one of the bigger parts of an intake left over, so no I didn't use them all up.

It's a Ford Thunderbird IC, that car sometimes came supercharged. It's bar and plate and very thick. I love the tusks. Makes it look prehistoric. Being 15 years old, it kind of is, lol.

aluminum is lighter but more expensive. it also should be tig welded. steel is cheaper and can be done with mig welding

since when does aluminum REQUIRE TIG?mine is mig and looks just fine with a little sanding+polish. aluminum is usually more expensive (if you buy separate bends) than steel is. but if you get the CAIs then it's actually cheaper. AND lighter, AND doesn't rust. AND a better heat conductor.

why? i don't know of any performance gain from tig vs mig. it may look prattier, btu again sand and polish will make it look just as good.

I don't remember which year, but if yo ulook they have the 1990 to mid 1990 models and the newer models, so compare them as to which ones have more straights and bends. and pick the one with most of those. also email the guy and make sure you can get the 4 of them shipped together for a reduced shipping price. and ask him what diameter they are, some are 3" which is way too big (unless you have power goals that exceeed 400rwhp). Mine were 2.5".

Unless you weld beads onto the ends of the pipes, your going to have a lot of IC pipes blowing off.

if you just bought a bunch of pipe and couplers, and got nothing welded, just used couplers, would it hold?

harbor freight sells a cheap bead roller that could roll a bead just inside of IC piping.

In theory, it should work. You normally weld most joints and use a few couplers to give the piping some room to move. I dont see why it would be less reliable to use all couplers.

When I originally put my piping together I didnt get the pipes welded thinking ill do them later so it looks bling. I used all t-bolts and silicon connectors and after driving for a while it worked so I was like fuk it and just left it alone. its been good for 9000 miles now, and i pressure tested my system yesterday and no leaks.

I had one spare crx CAI that i had used for my crx cold pipe and but the rest of them i used mandrel aluminum pipes from some site. I just did a bunch of work on my car this sunday and I was going to snap some pictures either late today or tomorrow, once everything is done and Ill post them up on NICO.
