Well as most of you know I got this double DIN HU, and its nice, but its kind of pointless IMHO..... Im not going to upgrade bose until later, so Im thinking i want to do this all at once and go BIG (kinda contradicted myself with this)...

What I want is a flip up MONITOR, thats only a monitor and then have a single DIN head unit that can control CD/DVD, and so on... That way I can play CDs and stuff withouth having to have the screen flip up.....

PLus I want something to fill up both din's...

BTW, my double DIN HU is FS in BST, $160 shipped

Erg... Dude you are really weird. I talked to you on AIM and you said a DVD player HU would be "JDM tyte". This is totally untrue. People in Japan don't put monitors in their cars. It's just unsafe. That's part of the reason why OEM HUs look so "bland". So they don't distract the driver from the road.

I say either keep the HU that you installed, or sell it and reinstall the Bose/Clarion HU. Either way, just change to aftermarket speakers. Go to the electronics store, buy ssome descent speakers, and try them out. If you don't like them, you can always return them.

If you do this, I bet you'll be satisfied with the increased sound quality for a few months.

If you don't want to replace all of the speakers, I suggest that you atleast replace the tweeters. I recommend these:http://www.onlinecarstereo.com...13355

These will definitely make your highs more "crisp" and clear.

PMQ, I don't know. If you cruise through yahoo auctions looking at "modded" cars, you'll see lots of them with flip ups and full screen double DIN units. Also, I think his use of the term is as much tongue in cheek than anything else.

I, personally, stronlgy recommend against a flip up screen, but I'm old and stupid.

Well ideally id like to get an indash screen and then have the controls on there and such.... Maybe do a carputer.... I could probably get a 400 mhz laptop with like 6gb of HD space for fairly cheap....

honestly i dont like the idea of a flip up because they seem very fragile... The idea behind the flip up wiht a seperate HU is that it wont have to flip up all the time, so i can listen to my normal music and such for my daily driving without having to deal with the screen.... So over the course of a month, depending on the road trips I take, it may only open the screen 4-5 times.... Flip ups and full screens both have their advantages and disadvantages, and its kind of a toss up.... Im not really sure what I want, but i dont i dont want stockness anymore....

BTW, PMQ, i think that you think its stupid because its GUARNTEED to cost more than $50 (hell $20) and you cant make your own....

You under estimate my abilities .

I just don't like the idea of having a monitor in view of the driver. It seems kind of "dangerous" and distracting to me.

Also, with a monitor in there, you run alot higher risk of theft/damage then you do with just a non-flashy double DIN similar to the OEM or the one that you had in there .

Question: Why do you want a HU with a monitor? What do you want it to do? What is your price range? Have you replaced the speakers yet? Are you a retard? Oh, sorry, we know the answer to that last one

Fellas, fellas, fellas.

I ain't no Mod in this here forum, but can we keep the above "banter" on IM.

There are potential NICO members that see this kind of stuff and decide to look elsewhere.

Now my 2 cents ...

A flip up can be more inconspicuous, as it's not as flashy when closed, but neither is a theft deterent, especially to some kid that knows some kid that hears someone talking about your system. That's the guy you gotta watch out for and you never saw him coming .

PMQ wants to build great systems cheap, by using "cheap" components, that sounds as good to him.

Wes wants to build a high JDM tyte (in your post) on a budget.

Reality ... neither are realistically and repeatably attainable. You can do one or the other and both sometimes.

Suggestion - Wes make a list of what you want, do your best to describe the sound you want, the looks you want and the features you want, maybe even assign a priority, like MP3 = MUST HAVE, fills double DIN = Like to have, etc. Then an overall budget.

The PMQ, you can offer suggestions even if involves a staged approach (i.e. first get this, then do that, etc), but offer a few options (brands & price).

There, now I've made one of my longest posts in a long time.

Thanks guys .

Now more about BIG AMPS and GROUND POUNDIN' subs .

Yeah and no PICS

I really dont care if it fills both DINs, because I can always find something that fills the second... I found a single DIN gauge thing that may be kinda cool.. So ill find SOMETHING to fill that second DIN, no problem..... One thing I want to be able to do is play CDs and stuff without having to open the screen.....

Definitely want MP3 and DVD, CD-RW.. XM compatibility nad stuff like that is nice but not a huge issue...

I dont want something real flashy... Something thats different but not aweful.. Remember it still is an old mans car, and a luxury car.....

I want good sound, but nothing award winning..... I plan on using my current sub and amp, and then ill get some standard issue speakers, and go from there...... The main thing is I want to be able to control it... I like equalizers... I want clear sound, nothing that overly emphasizes the lows or mids or highs..... Well ok, maybe the latter two only, gotta have the lows

Id like to get this done with $500 or so.. may be asking too much but with ebay, anythings possible! Give or take... Ive seen plenty of monitors go for around $300.. Used, but decent brands like alpine and clarion..... Seen a few Sony's as well...

Another main idea is to be able to play fairly loud without having distortion...

Im not going for something thats really over the top... i just want something that gives me cleaner sound... Im looking to make my Q45t the ultimate touring car.... I know that this should go toward the SC, but gotta prioritize.....

Unfortunately, the only Brand HU Flip UP screen HUs that I've seen that cost that much are from pyramid and legacy.

Rex: Sorry for the banter.Wes: I was just messing with ya with my last comment.

I'll try what you said Rex, by offering a few brands of choices. Can they all be inexpensive ? P.S. I think that I should clarify something, I don't do things cheap, I do them inexpensively !

Ok, Wes: Here's my first suggestion. Replace the tweeters. Pick any brand that you like or have read good reviews about. Who knows, maybe just replacing the tweeters would be good enough. Here are my suggestions, *note* I actually picked brand names!Infinity 1" Silk Dome tweeters Price = $59.00 I have personally heard these, and they sound excellant. Not to "bright" and alot "crisper" than the stock Bose tweeters. They include a passive crossover to protect them from damaging low/mid frequencies.

JL Audio 19mm Component Tweeter I havn't heard these personally, but JL Audio is a reputable brand. More JL Audio Tweeters

Let me know if you want more suggestions, and of what?

well you can have the best of all worlds. i've installed a bazooka tube for my lows, as for mids and highs i think bose is great. installed a us-spec cd player bought online for 75.00 and it plays cd-rw and everything else i throw at it and the great thing it just plugs in thats all.i also installed siruis sat system in the glove box so that theft is as a low point and also use an mp3 player with cassette adapter so there you have it all worlds at a really low buget.

Note* the sat system i installed has a fm modulator built in so i dont have to wire too many things but works great. just open glove box when driving and enjoy the music via a remote control.

Thanks for the input. Though, I suggest that you try installing some aftermarket speakers once. You can utilize the Bose amps to do this. I think that you would be surprised at what you are missing in the music. And hey, if you don't like the way the aftermarket speakers sound, you can just return them for a refund. So you've really not nothing to lose, except about 30~60minutes of your time.

I replaced only the back 6x9s in my Q, and it made a dramatic increase in SQ over the Bose. Now note that I have a '92 Q. So there are no tweeters in the A-pillars.
