Im glad we have sites willing to spread false information in-order to sell their product:

Quote »Up to 280 WHP with upgrades (turbo, intercooler, ECU, Injectors, MAF) on stock internals
and here i though it was 550hp, guess this company selling KA turbo kits knows the real truth.

Quote »The SR20DET is not sold in the US, so IF you have a problem, no dealer or shop will have a clue what to do with it. If you want parts, you most likely have to order them from Japan and pay through the nose for shipping, then wait months to get said items you paid through the nose for. Example: Need a lower timing gear? Think the dealer can get you one? Not likely, because the dealer doesn't even have a parts listing for the engine. How about a new oil pump? Good luck.
hmm...i'm pretty sure i can get new or used OEM parts fairly quickly at reasonable prices.

Well, Marc is pretty pro-KA (although so am I ;)) but I can vouch for him being a great guy and excellent to do business with. He's also going to be releasing an SR exhaust mani any day now that if I remember right, will be the same style as the KA one and hence will provide a medium priced, equal length, sturdy as hell, T3 top mount SR mani...a niche that seems to need filling :)

Well, he also doesn't spend a lot of time surfing the net, and is way up in Ohio...maybe he hasn't heard the sofla news? (even if it is old) I gotta call him soon, I'll tell him he irked the SR folks with his 280hp comment ;)

"Downtime: God only knows on this one...How long can you afford to have your car down? Depending on the skill of those doing the swap, figure between 2 weeks and 5 months to get the swap done by the time you wait on all the parts you will need or have them fabricated. "

Right......dont know about him but i'm sure it wouldnt take me 2 weeks to swap an engine...

Dude, it can take FOREVER to swap an engine, shoot...I just swapped a fresh, rebuilt KA-T in and its taking me forever to get it running. Electrical gremlins own me :( Also, if its at a shop you have to consider other cars that might be in line before you etc. 2 weeks would be REALLY fast to get a swap in and running perfect imo. Have you ever swapped a motor? It's more work than you might think, especially if you freshen up a lot of stuff.

I rebuilt and swapped in my SR20 in 2 days. Oh on that link he says mid to high 15s? (WITH A BAD DRIVER!) I went faster then their stage 1 kit.

Yeah, thats my beef with that page, it basically says the SR is sucks in every comparison to a turbo KA. If he has never built a SR, who is he to say its not worth it?

Plus if he had, he would have seen the light :D

A SR can hit their 280hp (fly) on the stock turbo. I ran 14.8@93 on stock boost with speakers and my girlfriend in the car at 2700ft (LACR) on bald tires. So.. That high 14s/low 15s thing is somewhat true, but more of an exaggeration. That's pretty funny. But it's all about marketing. I don't blame them. They're not going to change the world though; they're the only ones saying that stuff. KA and SR are pretty equal each has its advantage over the other. Nice little thing to read either way. I give them an A+ for marketing strategy.

I'd expect more than 11.9 with 468 WHP and 473 ft/lbs of torque? Or am I just crazy?

Street tires could be holding him down...even if they are R compound tires. I dunno what the elevation is there either, and its a heavy S14 :D They actually just beat the old hp and tq. numbers...but I'll let him post on his site whenever he gets around to it instead of spilling the beans. Damned impressive though! I'd make a funny comment about J-Spec's SR not running...but I haven't even driven my 240...ever :'(

Hey I drive a heavy S14! As for the 468hp quote, that result is probably from a low powerband of a KA that can redline at 6.5-7k as I don't shift my SR til 8k. Staying in gear longer means u keep going while the other guy spends 1/2 a second shifting and regaining speed.

ItzGenx.....thats not necessarily true....depends on the powerband of the car

if the car runs out of steam after a certain rpm, u're actually loosing time but revving past that rpm

example: my car's rpm dies after 4500....redlines at 6500 but i shift at 5500...why? because at 6500 the engine is screaming but i'm not going anywhere....

Funny how it's hard for an engine to run when it's not installed in a car.

lol! The fact that i've only been home for about 5 weeks total since late june of 2003 doesnt help either :D I know that sounds like alot of time to get crap done, but I go home to visit the family, not to be a hermit in the garage. So technically yes, my swap has been in the process for a long time!

That's how mine works too :( I go home and end up spending time with the girlfriend instead of the garage...not a bad thing, but not conducive to a running car. When are you shooting to have yours done man? I'm finally almost there...just have to work out this weird starter issue I'm having. Oh, and I was just joking about the heavy S14 comment, we're trying to get my bestfriend into a 97-98 right now, I love the styling :)
