Car: 1993 240sx vert

Post

I'm new to the seen with a rescued 93 240sx vert. and by rescued i mean RESCUED. I bought this car for 300 dollars. I live in southern la. and this cars roof wasn't up for a friendly rainstorm called gustav. the previous owner threw a tarp on it half way through the storm that had gallons of white house paint on it...the car is stock black...she then attempted to put the top up through the eye wall of the storm which ripped the rear window of the car completely out and got white house paint all over the top. two weeks after the storm her landlord shoved 3 potatoes in the air intake because of late rent.

which brings us to where i came in. I cleaned out the air intake system of the starchy blockage then tried to dry as much of the water as i could up. I then drove the car home. I proceeded to by some industrial clear plastic thats used in greenhouses and doublestitched it into the top to replace the window. the interior is shot for the most part, the seats are stained and mildewed along with the carpets, the door panels are warped and pulling themselves away from the plastic, the dash has multiple cracks in it. the driver side quaterwindow is cracked of its tracks and sitting inside the body. I scrubbed all the white paint off of it but took some of the clear with it i think because the finish has beened dulled out a bit. I had to do a MASSIVE tuneup on it, the oilfilter was the stock filter that came on the car and the car has 140,000 plus miles on it. needless to say the inside of the filter was shattered and when i drained the oil out if it i found what was left. I had to drop the pan to get everything out of it and all the sludge. Seeing all those shards mad me worry about the integrity of the motor but a quick stop at the local machine shop cleared my worries. The plugs were burnt so bad the ceramic insulation was gone.

that was 2 months ago, iv've driven this car everywhere. quick as hell imo. im still trying to remedie the interior issues and the finish but a new problem has risen up. tonight when i was driving it home i turned the heater on, a few minutes later i got a very strong gasoline smell. I pulled the car over and popped the hood, i smelled it for a second but then it was gone. I tried to trace my lines as best i could in the dark but nothing. the only thing i can think of is possible moisture in a fuel filter under the car froze and cracked said filter? anyone got any clues??

Wow, nice story!

Post up some pictures of this car especially if you have pictures of your work.

Anyways, to attempt to answer your question, is the car bogging or running rich? If so, you've probably got a bad injector. Otherwise, if you don't have any leaks on the lines or from the filter, you might need to replace some o-rings on the injectors...

As far as trying to remedy the interior, most of the interior is compatible with the other 240sx cars. Carpet is vert-specific, but you can get a coupe carpet to fit. Rear seats are also vert-specific, but there's plenty of people here ditching their rear seats. Door panels - those are junk anyway. If you're interested in ditching your door pillars (where the seatbelts go), you can use coupe/hatch door panels - there's a write-up in the sticky for doing the door pillar removal. Lastly, the rear panels are also vert-specific so you'll either need to repair them or find some more on here.

Keep up the good work, we love seeing these cars rescued. Make sure you check out the vert registry and add your VIN if you would be so kind.

Welcome to Nico.

Wow reading that makes me realize how tired I was last night. I found the problem. Its coming from the bottom fuel line coming off of the fuel rail, easy fix thank god. I will post pictures as soon as I get the chance.

I'm not going to do a silvia conversion on her I don't think. I like the vader kits though. Im installing an underglow kit tomorrow on her for sure if you guys want me to take pics and document the install i can post it tomorrow evening after everything is done kinda like a how to guide for people new to the custom car scene. Im still very undecided what im going to do with the car. I like the idea of a beach cruiser, but I never did like driving in a straight line. either way it will be intresting to see where it goes as this is my first real vert sports coup. I use to own an 86 prelude si and a 72 bug with a porsche motor so this isnt my first rodeo when it comes to building a good car. I just got to keep the keys away from my wife...

Please don't.

The car looks a little rough in those pictures, but I'm sure just cleaning it made a huge improvement.

If you want a cruiser, drop it about 2-3" with some nice flush wheels and you'll be golden. If you're heart is set on getting a body kit, keep it simple, something that accents the car instead of becoming the focus.

The vader kit looks way too loud and a little ugly in my opinion lol but its your car. Me personally I would do a type x kit or a kit from Origin. lol and underglows add more weight to the car and uses unnecessary voltage causing a drop in mpg

I've been working on it alot here lately buffing and waxing and trying to get as much oxidation out of the finish as possible. I've done everything but steam cleam the interior which oddly enough im doing tomorrow lol. The underglow kit my wife got me for christmas, I've had one on all my serious projects so its kinda tradition for me. I've been doing alot of research on the car and I'm weighing the pro's and con's of everything I could do to the car. I'm not going to even attempt to bs you guys when I do something its all the way whether its building a car with a billion horsepower or dropping it so low road reflectors have nightmares about it. The things I'm set on style wise are the underglow kit (it will only be used in shows and in parking lots I dont need jail time for impersonating a police officer). Dual diaxlehedrale (spelling??) doors. if your wondering what those look like look up the konisegg you'll see. and a decent spoiler upgrade, and im not talking one of these steel plate and wire cookie cutter civic wings. As for as power, i've got a couple crazy ideas bouncing around. BTW does anyone know if an r34's motor will fit in the 240 frame??...I am also trying to track down a decent 5 speed i can swap out my auto with. apparently I have a bad sensor for my auto that was giving it shifting problems and said sensor was disconnected. Im also hearing a tapping noise coming from under the bonnet. Its not internal on the motor but the sound varies with the rpms, possible bad ac clutch?? or maybe a pulley? anyone got any clues???

R34 Motor? You mean the RB26DETT or are you wanting an RB25? The RB25 in the R34 (IIRC...) is going to be a NEO which is more headache than its worth to install and get it to work. The RB26 is going to be nearly 10Gs to get installed with the fabrication and parts required. The RB25 is fairly easy, works well, and looks pretty nice: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0y3v9qQkAU

Also, swap to 5SPD ASAP, the 240 Autos are pretty much slushboxes and are worthless. The tapping noise you are hearing is probably your timing chain guide.

will that timing chain guide eventually shatter my timing chain or is it one of those noises that these cars make. I've been reading up on the swap just need to find a 5 speed in my area. Im looking for the engine that came in the r34's i figure if it can get that skyline flying it will make that little 240 go into orbit. thanks for the info on the different engines though its good to know in my research

You should be able to pick up an uncracked dash...just have to keep your eyes and ears open...should be able to find one locally. The dash is a lot easier to remove then you would think...Here is a write up how to remove it http://www.nicoclub.com/articles.php?id=228752 Good luck!

I'd Have to hit the lottery to get the doors the way I want them... I did score a set of rims from a guy here in town, 17'' 8 spokes they are painted white but i think it will work nicely for what I am doing, if not I can spray them gun metal. I might be having some paint work done later this week on the car, Ill post pictures as stuff happens and such, i still havent gotten the chance to put the glow kit on it because it snowed, SNOWED, the day i was suppose to do it. I live in southern Louisiana...WTF was with that? Im going to attempt to pull that dash this weekend as well. got a whole week off of work thanks to christmas and new years so i figure while im not with the wife im going to get some wrench time in on the vert.

I offically hate the interweb... I have been looking for a decent body kit for the car and I keep bouncing back and forth between an s13 conversion or a wide kit...or possibly some bastardization of both. But when i try to pull up pics of said kits i get pictures of cars from the fast and the furious, ill get pictures of a flared out rally truck, or possibly the same kit under three different names and companies...where can i go to get some decent pics of the kits i want to see and not some random images??

You can try cruisin around the picture threads on here in 240gen or go to some other forums, **cough ZILVIA cough**. I'll see if I can pull up some tasteful kits. IMO, less is more. I'm a fan of suddle aero, nothing too flashy. Are you thinking about a front end conversion? I think I heard a hint towards s13.

At first I was against the s13 but the more I look at it the more it grows on me, I really like the wide kits thought. hence why I'm stuck on the decision, but can't find a decent site to look at kits to order

Here's just a few pics off here, I'll leave the rest of the searching for you.

Shift_Oversteer's vert

Juanit0's vert

masterteque's vert

nis-s13's vert

ross.cottrill's vert

Silvia_Drift's vert

AZhitman's vert

Jspec603's vert

Onosq's vert

DailyDrifter's vert

Eikon's vert

That's just a few pics off of NICO alone. There are plenty more. If you're going the non OEM aero/bodykit route, kits like Eikon's and Greg's (AZHitman's) vert are the best and easiest for DD and IMO but others look/work great too, it's just personal preference.
