Folks,

Been lurking for a few days. Great place!

Well, I'm on the verge of purchasing a 2009 ROGUE.

I just got home from testing out a NEW 2009 Rogue SL-AWD, Leather, Premium and Moonroof in Chicago. I really love this car! I am holding out for a Black Exterior/Black Leather Interior OR Red Exterior/Black Leather Interior. I am going in tomorrow drive a new Red Exterior/Black Leather Interior they will have for me then. If I like it as much as the demo, I will probably buy it.

Here's the bottom line where I'm at:$23,360 OUT THE DOOR price with 2.9% financing for 60 months. (This price reflects a $4,500 CASH FOR CLUNKERS offset. I have a 1999 Infiniti QX4 I am trading in via the CARS program.)

Is this a GREAT DEAL?

I think it is but I can;t imagine the SEPTEMBER deals will be worse and perhaps a lot better if the 2010's are in and they are trying to get rid of the 2009's.

Is this great deal? Is SEPTEMBER the best time to buy a 2009?

THANKS

Christian

cbucking welcome to the club.

I don't know about the price but on the color, I will not go with the black.Black is nice when is clean but gets dirty very easy. Also you can see every single scratch.

Good luck with the purchase.

I would compare the price with a quote for a similarly equipped Rogue on CarsDirect.com. I don't know about Chicago, but in Southern California you can get the Rogue at cost. On top of that, I think the $1250 manufacturer's rebate runs through end of September.

In any case, you can see how it measures up. I got mine 3 weeks ago through carsdirect. They primarily work with the internet/fleet sales managers at Nissan dealerships that are near you so they get rock bottom pricing. Anyhow, your deals looks really good. Good luck!

Well... the problem with a trade-in... (even when applying Cash For Clunkers)... the allowance does you very little good if the dealership starts the negotiations at MSRP. (or even higher than MSRP because the dealership added a bunch of accessories to the car after they took delivery)

For the car you describe, with no trade-in... (and no cash for clunkers) you should be able to get it in the neighborhood of $25K. So... if you can get it out the door for $23360 then that puts the actual value of your trade in at about $1600

Heres the deal: The difference between dealer invoice and the MSRP on the big sticker is all dealer profit. How much profit you want to give the dealership is up to you. If you don't know what the dealer invoice is (what the dealer actually paid for the car) then you are negotiating in the dark. To find out how much you are "really getting" for your trade-in ask to see dealer invoice.

They may or may not show it to you. In any event, there are plenty of websites that will help you zero in on what you should pay. Here's a good one via Edmunds: http://www.edmunds.com/new/200....html

When the page loads click on: select the options ... proceed thru the 3 steps... and you'll end up with a good ballpark number of what you should pay (not what the dealership thinks you should pay) Once you have the price... then subtract your trade in allowance to get your out-the-door price. . I think you'll find they are not giving you $4500. There are actually 4 steps to the Edmunds TMV site. Since you are close to buying a Rogue why not complete Step 4 and let other dealerships in your area complete for your business. (HINT: Go to Google or Hotmail and register for a new email adddress. In this way, once you buy the car, you can stop checking the new email address and the dealerships you asked for bids... won't be spamming your primary email account.

Good post Elton Noway.

For reference here in NY they seem to be flying as soon as the cars are hitting the lot. Some are dealing off of MSRP (like new rochelle) and I know better. Placed a deposit for a black on black SL AWD with premium/moonroof/spoiler for $250 over invoice.

Thanks for the responses!

I am a bit confused at some of the numbers though.

Perhaps I need to be more clear.

The vehicle I am considering is invoiced at $26,702:SL-AWDLeather PackPremium PackMoonroof PackVenom Red exterior

The MSRP is $28,940.

The Sales Price I got was $25,773. This INCLUDES EVERYTHING EXCEPT: Tax, Title and Registration - PERIOD.

I opted for the 2.9% financing instead of the $500 rebate.

Unfortunately, I live in Cook County, Chicago, IL with 9.25% tax. The Title and Registration COMBINED is $105.

So, then you take off the $4,500 CARS CLUNKERS rebate.

I am OUT THE DOOR at $23,360. That is the FINAL AMOUNT.

Does that make more sense?

Thanks.

Christian

All,

For the Exact Car I want, Edmunds' pricing is:$28,940 MSRP$26,702 Invoice$27,022 What People Are Paying(Excluding tax and licensing)

$25,773 = MY PRICE

So, I beat the invoice by $929.

Is that a GREAT DEAL? Or do you think I should be Closed to $25,000 WITH SL-AWD, Leather pack, Moonroof pack and Premium pack.?

THANKS

Christian

One more piece of info:

Can you tell I'm obssessed yet?

I find that the best tool to use when purchasing a car is to buy the Consumer Reports New Car Price Service Report - there is NOTHING like this. It costs $14 and can save you a bundle!!!

Anyway, "CR's Bottom Line Price" for my vehicle is $26,273 PLUS Tax, Title and Registration. CR recommends that you negotiate UP from the CR BL price instead of DOWN from MSRP - that's what I did. And I think I just crushed the hell out of the dealer. CR says that the dealer should get 1%to 5% ABOVE the CR BL price of $26,273 and that would be a GREAT BUY.

I can get mine for $500 BELOW the CR BL Price.

Can I do better than this? If so I will wait - I don't NEED a car - but I WANT one

Consumer Reports Bottom Line Price "26,373$" add 1$ for the sales guy and subtract 4500$ = 21874$

Very smart! I was initially going to suggest the Consumer Reports option but changed my mind . I suggested it once before (in one of my earlier replies in another thread)... and several members jumped in to report there were plenty of free services that were just as good. As a result I decided not to plug the CR service again.

Anyway, I used the CR BL service as well. I had no problem paying the fee. In fact... I signed up for the "unlimited" reports option (all the reports you can pull for 3 months" for $39. I pulled down the invoice numbers on the Rogue, Honda CRV, Subaru Forester, Toyota RAV4 and a dozen other cars when working all the dealerships. However, if a person (like you) has already made their mind up and knows what car they want then IMHO $14 to get the Consumers Price report can be the best money spent. I can 't figure out why people will part with $25,000 or more to purchase a car but not be willing to pay $14 to make sure they are getting the best deal possible. Anytime I can spend $14 to save Thousands should be a common sense move.

BTW: Your follow on post where you gave more details, (i.e. MSRP, Invoice, taxes, tile registration etc... this information helps make your deal look better that it did originally.

The only purpose of my original reply was to make sure you understood (or were at least aware) that you "were not" getting $4500 for your 1999 Infinity QX4.

Not bad! As stated earlier I also used the CR BL information. With the CR data I was able to and negotiate a price on my Rogue of $600 over dealer invoice. My $600 over invoice was out the door "including" title and registration fees, tags, destination fees, highway fees, and ALL taxes. Period (Taxes in my state are 7.5%.

The ballpark dealer price you acquired via Consumer Reports ($26,273) is the price that you, me or anyone in the car buying market should be able to buy it for "Without a Trade In!"... Without Cash for Clunkers rebate". Are you really getting $4500 for your QX4? No. Based on your numbers it appears your are getting in the neighborhood of $3500. Not bad... but is your QX4 worth more than $3500? Is it worth more than $4500? Possibly. I checked Kellys Blue Book on a 1999 Infiniti QX4. (I had to guess at some stuff) I said your QX4 had all the standard options plus leather, that it had 150,000 miles on it ... but it was only in Good, not Excellent condition. Kellys says your car has a Private Party sale value of $4790.

Is it a pain to sell your own car? Yes it can be. Is it easier to trade it in? Sure. Are you okay with selling (trading) it for less than its reseller value? Only you can answer that.

For arguments sake.... lets say you decide "not" to trade in your QX4 but sell it to a private party or via Craigs list and apply the money at contract signing to buy down the principle amount when buying the Rogue. Using all the rough figures being thrown around you could probably save another $1000 to $1500.

NET: Would I personally hassle selling my own car to pick up another $1000? No! Why? Because anyone you sell it to could come back weeks later and hassle you if a problem pops up. Even more important... during the time it takes to sell your car... someone could end up buying the Rogue you have your eye on and you might not find another one with all the same options and color. (2010's hit the lot this month so the 2009's will start drying up.) Could you improve the deal you have? Probably... but not by very much. (unless you were willing to travel to a Nissan dealer out in the sticks)

If the Rogue you are lusting after really is "everything" you want (exact color and everything) then what I would do... is go back to the dealer (they already know you are serious) but make up a story. Give them the idea you are on the fence. For instance... tell them that now that the Cash For Clunkers program has been extended, you now have more time to consider if you have done enough research. Tell them when you were getting the CR BL report you noticed CR rated the Subaru Forester as their number one pick for small SUV's. When the dealership gets a paniced look in their eye because once again you are getting ready to leavie the dealership without signing a contract... wait for them to ask "What do we need to do to make the deal". Important... MAKE IT WORTH YOUR WHILE... DO NOT accept something lame like free oil changes or free detailing for a year. That costs them nothing.

Here's a good idea: They them if they swap out the Continental tires for Michelins... "and" throw in the spoiler they have a deal!

The aftermarket spoiler is about $280 (close to $500 installed) and getting a set of Michelins would be the icing on the cake. (Read this thread for some insight)

I only beat invoice by $250 here in NY and you got $929 below invoice. I'd say that's damn good. You must not be in the Tri-State (NY/NJ/CT).

cbucking, here is an idea, fly to NM, keep your Infinity or sell it on your own, stop in Denver (I'll buy you lunch) enjoy the ride(mini vacation) and save some money.

The ride below have the leather for $20,999 with 27K miles. That's no miles plus NM have lots of hwys, who cares it will run forever)

Great deal here=>http://www.cars.com/go/search/...ional

I paid $20,000 for mine with all the opts and they even paid $3K I owed on my 08' Honda E. My rogue came with 18K miles.
