finally got my extra block back from the maching shop. i had supertech 8:1 comp. pistons put in with stock rods and bearings. for the shipping, bore .5mm, hottank block, magnaflux block, crank, and rods, micropolish crank, resize rods (225K miles on them) and completely assemble the bottom end was 969.00 not bad at all to me. heres the pics.

and the supporting goodies JWT programmed ecu for ka24e with 550cc high impedence injectors, z32 maf, 8:1 comp. the injectors are in the pics along with the new oem timing chain parts. i am going with the colt cam stage 3 turbo cam regrind and having the head fully rebuilt. not sure if i am going to have a port and polish done but maybe since it will be off. i will keep everyone updated as the project continues.

How much would it have been if they didn't assemble it? I'm calling all the machine shops around here and getting prices on the work they do. I'll be assembling it myself though. Did they use a torque plate when boring/honing the block?

going for 350hp daily and hopefully about 400 tops. i still have to upgrade my turbo. my current one is pretty small. probably go with a t3/t4 50trim. the pistons are 9:1 for the DE but when placed in the E they are lowered to 8:1.

From the look of your block, I don't think they decked it at all. Also, I believe the torque plate is used when they over bore not deck since it mounts to the top of the block and simulates the head being torqued down.

I was going to suggest having the head and block decked, the head is alot more prone to beijng warped slightly then the block, but the block looks filthy. You can see old head gasket residue. Any decked surface I've seen looks likie your cylinder bores, basicly new material showing across the whole surface.

If the head is decked then you might as well have the block done. It will insure a good surface for the head gasket. At a minimum you want the deck area completely stripped.

i will clean up the deck area as good as i can and see if it will hold. i would have it decked but then i would have to send the whole thing out again and i think its more trouble than its worth right now. any suggestions on what to use for cleaning the deck?

Gasket remover and a scotch brite pad. Don't get the gasket remover inside the bore though. Actually, stuff like PB Blaster and WD40 will work as a cleaner also.
