Well, needless to say, I completely disagree with Bandit240. If you shop around and don't sucker in on "pretty" without checking for rust, it will get expensive.
Wise shopping, in an area that has rust free cars, will turn up a nice '72-'73 240Z for $3500 to $4000. People are not pulling the $8K to $10K you see in the want adds. A low milage '70 or '71 in 2+ condition might get $10K. A '72 in 2+ condition might get $6K in the right market.
I have a '73 with an '83 drive train, an MSA body kit, modified suspension and $2000 worth of wheels and tires. If I was selling it (I'm NOT), no bank would finance the $6500 I would expect to get. These cars being advertised for $8K or $10K can only be sold to someone who can write a check for the full amount.
There were too many of these cars made for them to be worth a ton of money. Shop wisely and you can find GOOD drivers for $3500.
