I know I said I'd never do it but I had no choice. I donated "Detroit Blue" to the boys ranch. For those of you unfamiliar with me and her... she was an 89 Cadillac Eldorado, milky white leather interior, shag blue carpet (the closest thing to an automotive afro), the paint was metallic-blue and glossy and she wore a white leather bonnet instead of those cheap looking rag tops. It even had a luggage rack on the back.

The odo just turned 185K and aside from leaking oil fom every place conceivable, having all the motor mounts broken, air suspension being shot, A/C and heat having left me long ago and the transmission being deeply in love with second gear...so much so that they were inseparable...she was a great car!!

My choices were to take about 6k and get her back in shape, sell her to some punk and risk seeing her around town on "DUBS" with baby shoes dangling from the rear view mirror or donate her to charity and get the write off. I did the later.

So after 8 years of service she is gone. No more 80 year old women screaming and tossing their depends at me as I cruise down 95 South. No more big boned sisters jumping on the hood and screaming my name at the redlights in front of Popeye's. No more snotty nose kids screaming "Big Pimp" when I break down in front of the bus stops. And no more instructions as to where to park that miniature "Exxon Valdez" when I go to visit friends. :( As B.B. King put it so eloquently ...The Thrill is Gone!!

I feel your pain Bionic. I have an 89 Reatta that I have vowed to keep forever but sometimes she pushes my buttons. Donating it was the right thing to do as opposed to selling a mechanical tragedy to some unsuspecting mush mouth. Plus the max write off for donating vehicles is $4999.

What will you replace her with? You need something to cover up that huge oil spot in the drive way.:D

LMSFWAO - Funniest post in a LONG time. Chris, I grieve for you man.

You can feel better knowing ol' D.B. went to a good cause. Sounds like you need to join Dees and Heath in the "2 Q Crew".

I thought my old buddy Greg Misipi would have expressed some regret on Detroit's behalf.

Dees, I bought a 91 Maxima to kick around in. No complaints so far. I kinda like it even. Maybe I'll post some pics of it within the next few days. I also need to come up with a name for her.

How about "Madelaine"? (but pronounced like Redd Foxx woulda said it)

That was my 68 Buick's name...

I was premature in thinking you were too busy to grieve the old caddy!!

I might have to break down and buy something nice for myself one day after I'm done pampering the wife. The G35 coupe is calling me...we shall see.

Hey Greg..Maybe I'll wait until the warranty is up on Quella. I would like to have that big bootied southern white gal of yours!! The car that is!
