I have a pretty much stock KA s13 with a many months old air filter. should I just buy the replacement filter for the box, or get something like a K&N FIPK or whatever, or a full-blown intake (AEM)?

chances are i won't upgrade the exhaust in the next year or 2.

thanks for your thoughts. ^_^

OEM Nissan is good stuff.

If you want, go with K&N drop-in.

Yeah, someone had an article about testing K&N, Apex'i, Blitz and HKS, Apex'i filtered out the most dirt and added the most power. That's why I got the Apex'i intake.

yeah the apexi filter is supposed to be the best one, and it's very compact and a DRY filter too (k&n uses oil for lubrication and it poops on your MAFS if i do remember correctly )

i plan to replace my K&N very soon, since i got it w/ the swap...soon as i save for the apexi filter

the HKS Super Mega Flow Kit is the best design. It has massive air flow to ur manifold do to its round design:

It also offers multi-air filtration:

Price is about $175 u can find it @ http://www.hksusa.com/

that's older stuff from a Revspeed magazine.

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

that's their newer testing. I still don't see a greddy filter though in the testing. I wonder how those will do in the line up.

yeah i noticed that they make it for s14s (95-98). anybody else have any ideas on "making it fit"? resellers generally say that this filter is for the sr20det ONLY. wouldnt i be better off going with either a K&N performance kit or a drop-in like AZ originally suggested?

I have J-Spec Tuners old K&N drop in filter. He has a S13 and I have an S14. It fits perfectly. It granted a marginal increase in throttle response and power (just enough to notice).

I'm not sure how it compares it the other intakes, but I'm running on the Injen intake for a KA24E. I feel solid gains and the intake fit well.

they mean it's the filter adapter kit bro...dont worry about it, it seem like u have lots to learn

yeah, lots of places sell the Apexi filter. and you can just make it fit...as long as the filter is the right size and the adapter plate fits it dosent really matter if it says "KA24(D)E" for the "kit"...i definately suggest teh apexi filter-kit though...supposedly yeilds highest gains, it's a dry design...no pooping on your MAFS, and it looks cool in person (despite what you might think, that HKS suction kit looks so lame in person)

Oh by kit I meant the filter with the thing that attaches to the bottom of the filter and connects to the mafs. That's all I got and works pretty good. If you're tight for cash, just check out ebay for those mafs adapter things and look for a k&n filter that has that same sized opening. If it makes your search any easier, the MR2 turbo uses the same size apexi intake as the 240.

Spending more than $50 total for intake on a natually aspirated KA is a waste of money. All it will really do is make more noise and maybe a total gain of around 1 hp. Unlike other old imports, the stock equipment flows very well for the KA24's NA needs (big throttle body, big inake pipe, big filter, all come stock).

Of course this is my opinion, if you want to throw down $200+ for something shiny, go ahead.

If you want to get cost efficiant, just do a K&N drop in and take out the plastic box behind the fender lining on the drivers side. Low and behold, you will find a hole that goes right into the air filter box that draws ambient-temprature air from outside the engine bay.

Heck, my cars turbo and all I have is a $25 generic cone filter+adapter and $3 worth of 2-inch PVC tubing from home depot. Let me tell you, it is the most cost effective mod I have EVER done.

Yup. Apexi has pretty much the best filter on the market. I remember seeing a large test of them a while back and apexi was #1. I'll be going with two of them on the 26.

Foam filters suck.

i talked to chet, the guy that put an apexi on his s13. apparently he had to get an aluminum adapter custom fabricated at a machine shop.

sounds like more effort than i want to spend on this, especially since my engine is NA and i have stock headers and exhaust. =/

final thoughts anyone? AEM intake: $150, injen intake: $200, k&n fipk: $125.

K&N drop in filter = $45 new

I got mine used for $20.

If your not going to be doing too many modifications a drop in will proboly be the best bang for the buck.

by the way, jspec - what do you mean by take out the plastic box behind the fender lining? how do i get to it?
