Hi everyone. Im about to turbocharge my 89 KA24e, but i noticed that when i slam the pedal, thick grey smoke comes out. this happens either when i start the car and rev it, or when im racing. But when im racing, the smoke comes out for 2-3seconds then stops. what could this be? is it safe to go ahead and turbocharge it at 3.5-7.5psi? :help

I would look into it before going turbo... turbo wont fix it just make it worse.

White smoke is water, black is fuel and blue is oil. Either way your burning somthing you shouldn't. Unless your just running rich. Then you could have a multitude of different problems. But as Matt said, I'd fix that problem first.

Either you, or a mechanic if you don't think you will do a good job, should inspect all of your lines and gaskets to look for leaks. Plugging that leak or changing a certain line may not fix the problem that caused it to crack/leak so it may run deeper. But the answer could very well lie within your pressure guages. Nice to see you again WD, I was out from the forums for a while.

For reliability, i wouldn't go past 5psi on a standard bottom end.

you wont be able to boost at 3.5psi due to wastegate spring restrictions. You probably are looking at 6psi to start.

Check your MAF? Also check your O2. Im not too familiar with the KA but i know on other cars you can hook the ECU up to a consult2 machine and it will tell you what its reading from both. Might help.

no.
