hey guys

i blew my motor in the s13 (spun rod bearing in #3) and put an s13 motor in my car, which incidentally doesnt run well. so now im gonna pull the s13 motor out and take one of the blocks into the machineshop to get it and the crank prepped and some solid rods/pistons put on.

the s13 block has about 91k miles, the s14 block that has 133k miles. also the crank in the s14 block is slightyl scored on cyl 3. the s13 block should be fine but i havent taken it apart.

from what i saw there doesnt seem to be any major difference in the crank/block between s13 and s14 motors. right? and would the crank be fixable if its slightly scored on one cyl? or should i just tear up the s13 motor

thanks for any inputMarko

shouldnt really matter which you choose. The block is not a wear item on any car, and if the scoring isnt that bad oversized bearings should do the trick. have youre machinist take a look and offer his opinion on the scored crank first, if in his professional opinion the crank is scrap then tear into the s13...might save yourself the trouble of pulling the motor right now.

if the bearings are installed with the right tolerances as specified in the fsm you should be fine. the machinist should be able to take care of those details for you, but if you want to do it yourself you can just have him do the actual machining and mock up. actually installing the new bearings is relatively simple...theres a good thread on ka-t.org in the favorites section. im rebuilding my motor with new clevite bearings, and took the crank and the block to a local machinists. i paid him 20 bucks, and he measured every journal and bore for me with his tools, which are far mor accurate than my own. now i now that everything is still within factory tollerances. however, reliablity and horsepower is really a game of how much do you want to spend. less now generally equals more later. im only doing new rings and bearings, so i might have reliablity issues later, but then again im only shooting for 250 hp. hit me on aim if you still have any questions..
