Well I got two job offers yesterday, one from microsoft and I don't even have to move to Redmond. I called my dad (the owner of the 92') and told him we're not parting with the old girl. He agreed, so I'll drive it back to LA and we're going to have it as an adopted "extra" car in the family. This way she will only get maybe 5k a year put on the odo and keep it.

Now I need to replace the front headlight lens and fix a few other gremlins, but I have become mighy attached to that car. While I do love my 97 still, I now do understand the attraction for these years. The only thing, I MUST get a rear sway bar on that thing. I've had a few close calls where the rear end shot out. My 97' touring is much stiffer in turns, probalby due to the extra sway bars and newer shocks.

you know what Fred, you're damn right. It took like 3 months of driving it alot to figure out that that year is a damn fine car. My wife is going to keep her old Mits Galant, which gets 30MPG and frankly nothing ever goes wrong with it, but we'll keep the Q in LA so I can use it when I fly into LA and my dad will have an extra car. For what you can sell the car for, like maybe 5k on a good day, it is just not worth selling it. The car drives like a dream and after several bottles of Techron has balls like no other.

I live in Half Moon Bay, CA and to get out of town you need to climb a big 2 mile long hill, with two lanes. I just love it when I hit that stretch, I'm going 80-90 by the top of the hill, but I cannot get that car through the next curve faster than 60 due to the rear lifting up and feeling like it is going to slid out. My 97' I can get around at 70, I figure shocks and a rear sway bar fix that.

WA-HOOO!

Congrats, Jeff!

If I can get the 20mm bar I'm currently coveting (hint hint) I'll be glad to send you my touring (15mm) bar and hardware.

Hey AZ, we'll take you up on that...and for NICO members renters could be a player too. The car is going to be located in the Marina City Club soon, about 5 miles from LAX.

Let me know if you decide to dump that bar, I'll pay shipping or whatever. BTW, I was just in Phoenix a couple of weeks ago for the first time in 5 years. I lived there 88-91 and got my doctorate at ASU. I barely recognized the place, new freeways everywhere, overpasses I've never even seen, unreal...its like a real city now!

Woulda been good to buy you a brew. Maybe next time.

BadQ45t-

Glad to hear you will be keeping the first gen car. But one question. If, as you state, you have had a few close calls "where the rear end shot out," then you may want to rethink getting a rear bar.

A rear bar will increase front lateral and motive traction. It will decrease rear traction, and make the car feel more neutral. If you feel the car already tends to oversteer, this could be the worst thing you could do. You may have read Q45tech and others commenting on how the Stillen 24mm rear bar makes a Q challenging to drive in the rain.

Instead, get polyurethane bushings for the front 29mm bar, tighten/replace the endlinks, and leave the rear alone.

That said, I can't imagine a stock Q oversteering. I have the 28/20 mm active bars with poly bushings and tightened factory endlinks. It's neutral to light understeer.

Well the end links are already done under warranty, not sure if I stated it right. It just isn't as stiff when you start to feel the body roll in a long fast turn. The 97 touring is much stiffer, I think shocks and bushing have to be replaced and a rear bar installed.

AZ, sorry we didn't stop for a beer, next time for sure! I was out for the first time in 5 years (I lived there for 3 years) and we were run ragged to get all of our friends the time the damanded. Next time for sure, first one is on me!!! I had to promise my friends and my doctoral advisor (my only friend left from my Ph.D. program) that I'd make the treck at least annually. His wife owns Arcadia Farms restaurant in Scotsdale where we had a lunch fit for a king, so we'll be back! And if you are looking for a home for the bar, let me know...personal e-mail is [email protected]
