ok hello everyone. i'm gonna buy my fiance's moms 05 G35 sedan this week probably. as said it's an 05 and it's a sedan with 80k miles. i'm looking forward to having a nicer car but, i still want to add a few things to personalize it and make it my own. i'd like to add an intake but, not sure which one i want. i know the intake isn't going to add much hp. i'm mostly wanting to add it for more mpg...and the sound when in open throttle :chuckle: . i'd also like an exhaust but, don't want the car to sound like a honda (no offense honda owners, used to be one myself, you know what i'm talking about tho). also thinking of adding a programmer but, not sure which one and which would pay for itself after awhile. as i said i do want to add some things for performance but, i also want to maximize fuel economy as well.

as for appearance i don't really know what i want to do. i wouldn't mind a lip kit but, i haven't found one i really like. i don't want a body kit but, i do want something to make it look more sporty (i know, i know sporty sedan, yea right) and give it that lowered look. with that said, if i do find a lip kit i like i'd like to lower it an inch to 1.5". probably no lower than that. i also want to get HID's for the headlights and fog lights. those are more of a necessity really. i'm 26 and my eyes are already going to s***.

in the past i've done the basic bolt ons to my dd like intake, header, exhaust, tb, tb spacer, and maybe pulleys. this one will be the same. just basic bolt ons that will improve my mpg and hp as well. i'd really like everyones input on which products are worth the price.

as far as an intake i've done alittle looking and i like the look of the stillen and jim wolf intakes. just simple intakes really and basically stock looking. i don't really want a chrome intake pipe. i like how the stillen intake had the part around the filter that directs air toward the filter (i'm pretty sure it was the stillen intake).

anyway, if you all can give me some input on which products are worth the cost i'd appreciate it.

Welcome to NICO

Motordyne spacer seems to be a common upgrade for the G35's. Obviously intake and exhaust. Headers are really not worth the effort for the most part.

Here is my $.02

Don't touch a freeking thing. Enjoy your new ride

Take the $$$ you were going to spend and put it in an IRA or 401k plan

Do you have at least 8 months of living expenses in savings?

You'll thank me in 20 years

lol, thanks telco! With the way the market is, you may be better off modding a car and trying to sell it for a profit...

I'd do the following to an 05:

R2C intake
5/16 plenum spacer (Motordyne)
IF its a 6MT, MREV2 lower Plenum
Coupe mid-pipe
Axle-back exhaust
Clear corners
exterior items to preference (lips, spoilers)
Tint

^ Agree with Joe!! I did the coupe mid-pipe on a 05 Sedan and it did sound much better!!

Telcoman does keep us looking to the future preaching how we should put our mod money in an IRA or 401K, and for one, I do appreciate it!!! :bigthumb:
However, you do have to keep in mind that he chose to spent over $10K more on his G35 than a base model 4 banger Camry which would have also saved him even more money in fuel costs all of which would have made his 401K even healthier!! :chuckle:

I believe that I read that it was free-er flowing since it was smaller and it is lighter in weight for sure. At the time, I had two 05 sedans (mine & hers) and you really could tell the difference in sound.

Here is what mine sounded like.

I put the sedan mid-pipe on craigslist and was surprised when somebody actually wanted it! Sold it to somebody in the mid-west

if you only do one thing to an 2005 g35 sedan... do a 5/16 plenum spacer (Motordyne) :yesnod Its a noticable improvement in power and sound. next would a coupe mid pipe, then intake. these three mods together are a great bang for your buck.

spacer ~$200
intake ~$250
coupe mid pipe ~free - $100

so just a max $550 investment will greatly impove power and sound.

I also recommend a grounding kit, some might not agree, but my 2005 and 2010 G sedans love the SBD grounding kit.

clear corners can be brought for about $35 or less for a OEM part.

here is my old 2005 g35x with these mods

Both sound really good. I'll have to hit a few of the salvage yards near me to find a midpipe. Is the install pretty easy?

Btw would a 350z midpipe work? I know someone that put exhaust on their 350z so I may be able to get their midpipe
