I just have a couple questions. If superman is so powerful, how did he lose to Doomsday? If you read the description of Doomsday he sounds remarkably like Goku in the sense that anything that doesn't kill him only makes him stronger.

Also, I agree with whoever said that Superman's powers vary so drastically in the comics that it just doesn't seem logical to look only at his strongest points. If Superman were as strong as the writers say he is, he would literally be a god and would be able to prevent any disasters, which we know doesn't happen. So instead of looking at what the stupid crazy writers say he is able to do, look at things that he has not been able to do to determine his limits.

I would think the Superman in the cartoons should be a good determination of his abilities.

Well technically it was a tie between doomsday and superman...and he held back because if he went all out, the planet would've been destroyed...plus it's a comic and they were trying to establish interest in the character again so by killing him off they did just that.

However, the death didn't take as he came back without any help from dragonballs, lol..

If we were to lookg at what he's not able to do i would say, there isn't anything i can think of that supermans not able to do, i mean he can collapse black holes with his barehands, reignite stars, he lived inside the suns for 80000 plus years...i mean i don't know what superman would not be able to do.

He just recently defeated Thor in the DC.vs Marvel crossover.

The thing you guys have to understand about DC and Marvel is they have an unlimited number of ideas and universes, multiverse, and then the omniverse. There are So many different versions of each character in alternate realities and whatnot tha it's impossible to know these things.

I'll reiterate about the sun, he sleeps in the sun for 80,000 years and and he starts that in 70,000 years from now.

He is invulnerable to anything really, he can surve nuclear bombs and does so on regular occasion, hell he's even survived a supernova. However, if you have enough force you can put him down without utilizong one of his weaknesses which i state earlier. Hence characters who have enough oomph, can knock him on a55 and give him a good fight, for example, darkseid, mageddon, imperiex, doomsday, hulk, thor and i'm sure there's more.

We are missing something here. If superman dies as he did with doomsday he will come back to life after a certain amount of time if he is exposed to sunlight. Goku on the other hand can keep coming back with the balls. Superman doesn't kill his enemy's if anyone is familiar. Also Goku did time travel with the Ballz so honestly neither one will win it will be a never ending story. Only person that would win is Green lantern by exiling them to another dimention with no escape routes. / thread

Welcome to comic books. There really is no "original universe" anymore. Marvel Comics had the Fall of the House of M, and DC had it's Crisis on Infinite Earths.

All that matters is canon. And Superman/Superboy Prime (if you want to get technical) is canon.

Also: note that Superman survived Doomsday's attack, and returned even stronger.

Superman is/could be thousands of years old. He's had training. He's already smart enough that if he wanted to train, he could do it well. Hell, when Something Aweful did this debate, it was stated that Superman has proven to be smart enough that if he wanted, he could splice in Goku's DNA and go SS himself (not canon, though)!

Did you miss the part where Superman SNEEZED and destroyed a solar system? Superman is stronger.

Superman does lack decent ranged attacks. But Goku's ranged attacks aren't anything Supes hasn't delt with before (absorbing an explosion capable of destroying the galaxy...). "Ki" or whatever it is has very little affect on Superman anyway.

To my knowledge, Goku has not cannoically time travelled on command. So, no time travel for him! Superman time traveled so much during the Silver Age it wasn't even a big deal in the story arcs...

Eh, screw this. Superman universe is way to confusing. It just seems like the writers do whatever they hell they want. At least in anime, everything is factored into make sense or at least the writers try to. The only thing worth noting from this thread is:
