Hey, I'm going to the track next week and i'm going to race my brother. He has a 90 nissan maxima 5-speed with intake and exhaust. I have a 95 240sx 5-speed with intake and an n1 style exhaust. Who do you think will win? The track is an 8th of a mile and they do times, not who gets to the line first. What do you think the outcome will be? Thanks!

Close one, but the 240 should have an edge in the 8th due to RWD.

Fred...:)

PS: Where are you located, which track?

REAL close.... but I'd put my money on the 240sx. The older Maximas are not THAT fast. Then again, neither is the 240... but I'd say it has a slight edge over an aging Maxima.

the track is near ellettsville, indiana which is where i'm located. i'm just not sure how well i'm going to do against him. he has tons of low end torque so he'll probably get my off of the line, even though i have rwd.

I'm going to be the odd man out and say the Maxima, just because it's a 6 cylinder, but I agree, it's going to be close.

what do you guys think gearing wise. his car tops out at 75 in 2nd whereas mine tops at barely 60 in 2nd.

He has a VG30E in it? or a DE...if its just the E, he will LOSE. Those engines have no balls, I killed my friends N/A Z31, and my car was stock, he has intake and exhaust. The VG30E is terribly underpowered, and doesn't put out all that much more power they the KA, plus your car/engine has fewer miles on it (I would guess). Good luck though.

we are about equal in miles. he only has 5 more hp than i do but about 23 ft lb more torque than i do. his car is a little heavier, but not by much. i've driven his car before and that engine does have balls, but only on the low end. the top end sucks which is where i think i may have him, but i'm not sure.

torque to pound he's better. 1 ft lb of torque for every 17.4 pounds of his car and 1 ft lb of torque for every 18.75 lbs on my car. hp is a little better though 1 hp for every 20 lbs on his and 1 hp for every 19.3. i guess i'll find out what happens this friday.

Take out all your seating for the race, along with everything in the trunk...bring your weight down a little.

Also only eat breakfast the day of the race...(just kidding)

lol, nope i've not met her.

i think having the n1 will actually reduce my torque but raise my hp. he has a magnaflow which he said greatly increased his torque and also helped on horse. he said he does have a bad y-pipe leak though and he's losing major power from that. i think i have him.

hmm tough. at best '90 maximas will run low 16's, possibly high 15's..not too many older 3rd gens in my forum (maxima.org) race. i think it will be close. it depends more on the driver. if he really knows how to drive his car then you better cut a good light. just make sure you're driving well and you'll be alright. don't forget to lower drive wheel tire pressures. i reduce mine to 14.5lbs. remove any extra weight from the car. and run 1/4 tank or less gas in the tank just to give you that extra edge. :pface

Try and refuel with the high octane at the track too... just mix a little in. Along with VQdriver, fill it to a 1/4 tank at most, if it's already over that, don't bother with the hight stuff.
