hey guys,

I am in the process of purchasing the parts for my s14 swap, and I just found a Q45 at a local yard that has not been picked through. My question is, other than the obvious parts needed (engine, trans, ecu, and wiring harness) are there any small or easily overlooked items that I should pick up that would make the swap easier?

thanks

Car: lots of unique hot rods, and customs, with modern engines, and a good truck to pull the trailer.

You only need the Auto trans if you are going to use it. You need the complete motor, with its intake the whole way to the air box including the mass sensor, all the wiring on the motor, and its harness that goes into the passenger compartment on the pass side. You need to grab the first foot or two of the harness that it connects to through a a three connector setup---- 1 white connector w/ about 18 wires in it, and a blue of the same size, and a lil white one too, there are 3 relays on that part of the harness too. So grab the ecu, and the harness it hooks too, and cut out part of the car's harness it connects to for wiring it in later, and having the relays. grab its a/c and p/s pump for ease later, and don't forget the alt and exhaust manifolds. If you want the tach take it, yuo may wish you had it later in the swap. (easier to swap its internals into your indash one)

so all of that in short---

Engine complete with pumps, intake plumbing and mass, ENGINE WIRIGN HARNESS< with ecu, and don't cut the harness, cut the harness you dont want(main car harne) You only want the ATX if you are going to use the ATX trans, and if so, you need its TRANS CCU and its wiring, that is a bigger pain in the butt that going 5spd, ask the guy with the Benz45 Hope that helpscraig

1996 vh w/out vtc and all accesories1990 uncut wiring harness1990 ecuz32 5spdz32 starter

I'll go get the extra 2ft of harness under the dash and the cluster. Do you know if the q45 drive shaft yoke will attach to the z32 trans?

thanks

You should have gotten the front brake calipers/rotors and the VLSD rearend too as those are common 240sx upgrades. Those were the first things I sold when I parted my Q out!

Not sure about the Z32 transmission, but on the Z33 transmission it conflicts with the shift assembly (shifter bracket/shift rod).

(If its a factory Q45 drive shaft with stock rubber coupler & not universal joint's).

Yeah forgot the rear is a good mod for the S, I am doing a z32, so not an issue, just a spare part in case I break the N/A rear.

when I did a search wiring a few weeks a go, it became easy to tape n label all the wiring so that i knew what was what, but i had to go through a lot of posts to find info on certain ones, one day there will be a how to ..... here
