Thanks!

They offered me a CVT with ABS/Con Pkg for 17,440 MSRP - $200.

So, 17,240? It's a little less than the Edmunds price... good deal? I'm still shopping around!

I've also decided not to go for the Convenience package. Just not worth it. But it's still cool.

An '08 model I assume?

Did they have any '07's left? Right now those would be your best deal. I recently got (on Labor Day weekend) an SL with Conv Pkg, Sound Pkg, Moonroof Pkg, CVT, and Mats (No ABS) for 16,495 US. I think you can do a little better than MSRP -$200. But it's not a bad deal either...

Martini,

If they offered you 17,440 without much or any negotiation, they can go lower. I would go back and offer them somewhere between 16,750 and 17,000. If you are paying cash you may be able to go even lower. The original price of my car was about 18,750. I got the car down to 18,000. If the dealer was local I'm sure I could of got them down even lower. I would of also negotiated a bit more, but it was the exact car that I have been trying to find for the past six months. They came back to me with different offers, but I stood firm with my offering price and they finally accepted it.

Good luck with buying your Versa.

You can definitely do better. Stick to your guns!!! If they think you're serious and your offer is reasonable they WILL accept it eventually...

Well, I started talking about getting an '07 with ABS and CVT but apparently it's not a "popular package" and it's "hard to locate any, if any are available at all." Lithia Nissan offered me ABS + CVT for 15,700. And Jim Sigel is offering the ABS, CVT, and Convenience for an '07 for about $16,400(after $750 incentive). I don't really feel I'm getting a good deal. Should I expect them to knock off the dealer hold back of 2%? I want them to do my license, title and registration for me but they won't budge. Also, they keep telling me there is no margin but I'm not buying it. They wouldn't be in the business if they weren't making money somewhere and it's definitely not going to come from me financing it.

This is the second time I've tried to buy a damn Nissan Versa and I feel like the price just isn't where it is suppose to be. This is a really bad experience. Buying a car shouldn't be this hard. I should be able to to order factory direct and shipped to my own damn home without all this bull.

Also, anyone know of any good insurance places? Everywhere I'm looking for insurance at is above $200! I'm 20 years old, so I know I'm hit with that but...come on people!

Martini,

You are right not to buy their story about there being no margin in their price. Sure they don't make as much on the Versa as they do when they sale a 350z, but they do make a profit. If the person you are working with won't budge with the price try a different salesman. Call them on the phone and speak with someone different. Make that person an offer and tell them that you understand that they will need to talk to their manager about that price and for them to call you back. Try different strategies and see what happens. Just remember to sound confident and stick to a price you see is fair and are willing to pay.

If you are not finding the car you want you might consider ordering one through the dealer. If the dealer you are working with does not want to order one for you go to another one. That is exactly what I had to do. You will pay more for a '08, but you will get exactly what you want.

I looked for insurance about six months ago. I was 21 years old at that time and had a quote for about $90 a month from Eastwood. Give them a call and see what you can get. Also if you are living with your parents and going to school you might get a better deal with them adding you and the car to their policy.

Well as far as insurance goes, 21 is the first "price drop"...25 is the big price drop as far as age goes. You can also get lower rates for being married... I'd start looking at mail-order brides if I were you

Try shopping online and email 2-3 different dealerships with what you are looking for and what you are willing to pay for it. Go back and forth with them and see what happens. I did this when I bought my 2nd Versa and it was such an easy experience I don't know if I'll ever negotiate face to face again. No joke, I spent a TOTAL of 1.5 hours at the dealership and that was for dropping off my deposit (30min) and picking up the car/signing paperwork (1 hour).
