Ok i am going to start my winter projects for my 1989 5- speed 240sx. My car is completely stock right now. I have 2300 bucks and i want to spend it all. Would this be enough to get a turbo kit and if it is what one to get or if it is not please help me spend my money. I am lookin to get into the high or mid 14s for next year at brainard international speedway. Give me a list guys please. Thanks again for all the help.

I don't think $2300 is enough for a turbo kit, but i could be wrong.

I would buy the following:- Exhaust (Apexi, 5zigen or HKS?)- Intake (Injen or possibly AEM)- Lightened flywheel- Pulley perhaps?- Strut bars

not a turbo kit for your Single cam motor...unless you really want to...

id say do suspension, and some rims...

or get a Dual overhead cam and build the motor, then turbo later on.

Hmm...for 2300 you could get an SR (Or pretty close to it). But before I would do more power, you should make sure your car can handle it....like suspension, wider wheels perhaps, and better brakes (Z32 maybe). If you are gonna go fast, you better have the brakes to stop it. Stiffening the chassis is a good idea too, along with some sway bars to help control understeer/oversteer (adjustables would be the best if you can swing it).

2300, lets see...not quite enough for turbo, but why turbo a SOHC? if you wanna do a KA that bad, seriously, it'd be of better interest to you to get a KADE and do it to that. but 2300 is pretty close to an SR my friend. i'd just wait a couple more months or w/e and just wait until you can get enough money for the swap. thats what i wanna do. i used to wanna build my KA and stay NA, but i got convinced otherwise : ) but if you really wanna spend that money, get the 5-lug swap maybe and do the 300zx brakes. if you didn't wanna go 5-lug, get the brakes drilled to fit your 4-lug. and do your suspension, STB's, sways, springs/shocks. Possibly rims if you really wanted. that stuff is just prepin your car for more power, which hopefully it will get one day.

yea I agree, I recently bought my 89 240 too and what im doing first are the suspension, then onto the motor later....because if your engine is still good why swap and waste it's remaining life, when you can spen on your suspension first then wait till it die and spend it on a swap.

Could get an RB20DET clip for like $1000, too much stuff to do for my tastes though.

CA18DET is what, like $1800??? That leaves $500 in misc tools and parts. I think it an be done if you're willing to do the swap yourself. You get 175hp @ stock psi, but 12 or so psi is safe for a stock CA18DET, which is probably 210-220 hp, which is pretty much what you would get with a custom made $2300 turbo kit, not to mention the CA is meant to be boosted, when the KA is not. I was thinking of boosting the KA, but the CA or SR swap just makes more sense to me now, the engines have between 30-40K miles on them and prove to be cheaper in the long run.
