going to look at a 240sx

i am going to look at a 89 240sx 2 door 5 speed tomarrow after noon. and i would like to know some of the 240sxs common problems. to look at b4 i talk money. i know it has rust on the rear fender..bad head gasket and it just had the transmission replaced. i was also told it needs the breaks fixed. but they still work.. from what he told me the transmission cost him $1200 i told him that is more than the car is worth..lol i dont know if it is a after market one or if it is brand new...but that is a lot. i am going to try to talk him down to 500 b/c i dont want to pay $1000 for something that i dont even know if it runs.. so any tips would help a lot..i am new to the hole nissan thing..but know quiet a bit about hondas..so i am not totaly stupid when it comes to cars...i have also been reading posts here and reading mags for the last week..about the 240sx...i think the 240sx to silvia in sport compact car is what really got me into this...

hondas are not nissans...the prices they talk about doing the conversion in scc has since doubled

240 is a unibody, the rust is going to have to be cut out and replaced, you cant just buy a new rear fender.

The prices that SCC got were awesome ANYWAYS, those prices haven't existed since before basically everyone here had ever heard of a SR20. : )

Be sure to check the floorboards...they are notorious for rusting...and the valve cover gasket is known for leaking...
