I'm heading to the junkyard tom. I need to grab some things. I want to upgrade to a KA throttle body. I'm going to get one off a KA24DE so it is a more direct swap than the KAE. KADE 240's are kind of rare so would the Thorttle body off the FWD KADE altima work and be the same bolt on as the 240sx KADE TB?

You've got it backwards. You want the KA24E TB. If you get the DE TB, the coolant lines will be on top.

Everywhere I've read said that you have to mount the KAE TB upside down and rebend/bypass the coolant lines. The KADE TB mounts up just like the CADET.

Here is a pic of a KAE just to refresh you. On a CA and KADE TB the throttle pulley is on the opposite side.

*Update: Found a 240sx KADE TB fro $20 and i popped it right on after I gave the intake mani a slight port to really get the full affect of the new TB.

the De throttle body only required modification to the coolant lines on my car to install. (read banging with a hammer to lower the

Also, The throttle cable is different and I couldnt install mine without welding on a new bracket.

Why didn't you just swap the pully from the CA over to the KA TB?

IIRC I think I was able to get the secondary pully for the cruise to swap over as well. When I get the CA swapped into the new S13 I should be able to tell.

I left the coolant lines off and just looped them. To my understanding they where there only to warm the engine faster to keep the emissions down. Seems like looping them would yield maybe a 1/2 hp because the air wont be reheated after being cooled by my FMIC.

Bypassing the coolant doesn't cause any problems?? I tried this on my '95 maxima, and it would never come out of fast idle.

I dont believe a CA or KA has a thermo wax setup that holds the throttle plates open until the coolant melts the wax and allows the plates to close and drop the idle. I think they use the iacv valve to control fast idle. Can anyone confirm this?

Thanx i've seen that picture, but it's sort-of irrelevant at this point. I mean this post has two major subjects. Is the KADE TB the same on the altima and 240sx and most recently does it matter if you bypass the coolant lines in the TB. I'm aware of the relative sizes of the nissan tb's and mafs and i'm currently running a KAe MAf and KADE TB with no issue. So thanx for the pic but im not really sure if it was warranted.

Well the gasket is the same, but the TB isn't. You can likely mount it up, but whether all the various bits fit up I'm not so sure (i.e. throttle pully, etc), also it may not be the same size (inner diameter).

U11/U12 Bluebird was AWD CA18DET... that's the best engine to source if you are doing a FWD CA18DET swap. You just need to get the FWD transmission.

When I tried to put my DE throttle body on i ran into a bunch of problems

the throttle cable pulley was too far forward even with the CA pulley.

the DE use a different TPS then the ca. And in my case the TPS from the CA wouldn't even fit on the throttle body.

The KA-E throttle body, just required you to flip it over and cut off the coolant ports.

supposedly, the coolant ports are only there to prevent the throttle body form freezing shut.

was the transmission for the awd any good (strong enough to withstand 300 at the wheels) or is the standard transmission for the ca18det stronger
