Hello,
I'm looking to buy my wife a 2005-6 G35x and I know it's auto only. She loves and has always driven manual trans cars. Is the manual shift mode in this car easy and deceint enough? Does it shift up and down the gears at least somewhat like a manual? I've read a lot of good things about the car but this is a big purchase for us and I don't want to blow it. Any comments would certainly be welcomed and thank your for your help!

What about an 07 G35 6MT? The semi-manual feature is easy to use, just pop it up or down to shift gears, the CPU onboard will (I believe) pop it up or down for you depending on your speed/RPM.

Hi,
Not going to do the loss of money as soon as we drive it off the lot. 06 and 05 have the manual auto so we'll be going that way and saving thousands to boot.

Subwayco,We love our 05 sedans. Neither are X's. I've shifted in manual mode a few times and it does OK.If you have concerns you really need to test drive one. Find a dealer that will let you take out a used 05 for an extended test drive without the salesman. They will make you sign a paper with when you need to have it back and take off. (At least that's how it's done here).Should be able to get at least $5,000 off the stick of a new 06. I was told $5,300 off a couple of months ago on an 06 G35X before I opted for a used 05. Good luck!!

I'm not looking forward to the auto but what can you do when the 35x only comes in auto? I'm trying to convince her to go with an older g35 sedan with the 6 speed but with rear wheel drive it's a tough sell in Colorado where we get our share of the snow.

Do your parents know you're on the internet again???
I've owned nothing but sticks since 1977, so I am really enjoying having my first automatic!! However, I still have my 5 speed mustang cobra for weekends.

Go for the 6sp manual. I had to drive home in a 50 mile Valentines Day ice & snow storm here in New Jersey. The Garden State Parkway was not plowed and ruts of icy slush covered the roadway. I watched many vehicles spin out , lose control & slide across the roadway and bounce off the guardrails after touching their brakes.Me, I left plenty of distance, downshifted frequently to slow down and made it home fine. I'd never drive an automatic.

telcoman makes a great point about handling in the bad weather.Definitely go with the auto G35X. I had two 4x4 pathfinders at one time. One was an 01 5 speed, the other 03 auto. Took them both out in the ice/snow. The auto was MUCH easier to handle. I think the auto G35X would be a much safer choice for your wife!! No doubt!! Good luck!!
