Hopefully future owner here next month. Seeing that the new 2007 will be out in the next two months I hope to catch a fair or maybe a great deal. My question might of been asked before, but when I have done a search I can not find my answer to my question.

Here are my questions.

1. The stock radio. If you replace the stock radio will you loose functionalty of the control on the steering wheel?2. The MP input on the radio what kind of mp3 works on it? I heard that the ipod will work with some mod or etc??3. How is the sound system on the stock radio? Im guessing like all other stock radios? This is excluding the BOSE system. ( what size speakers will fit with out moding?)4. If I buy a radio and install it how much modding will have to be done to the car?? Keep in mind that I will be leasing this car.

P.S.

If anyone has some good tips shoot them over.

Thanks for your time

To answer your question properly, We'll need to know what year you're getting...also what you're looking for, ie sound quality, more bass impact ect. The head deck does not need to be removed to achieve decent sound.

I would be getting 2006 Coupe. I have had many steros in my old cars. I have installed them and etc yat yat. I have an Isobaric 12" Subwoofer. Now what Im looking for is something great quality. Im not looking to ghetto rific the car. I have a amp from my old installations. Its a Kicker amp and also have a Punch amp.

I also have some infinity mids and highs just not sure what speaker size can be installed into the car without tearing up the factory speaker slots.

Well the 06 HD is the same as the 05...For my system; I decided to go in stages. First, since the Bose stereo was missing the bass I was used to, that would be my starting point. I had a custom box installed with an MTX amp...only. Still using the factory HD/Speakers. The new line of MTX amps allow for speaker level inputs, so I used the rear mids (rear-side 6.5s) for the amps source input. This allowed me to still use the Bose HD/amp/speakers/steering wheel controls, with the bass I was missing. Now, some will argue this isn't the way to go as the Bose sound quality isn't the best...but for me, it sounds great!

But, if you want to do everything, you'll need a new console for the head deck, with AC controls...this cost around $300. Everything else is straightforward. I believe you can find gadgets to use your steering wheel controls with an aftermarket HD...

To answer your question about the Ipod thing, check out a local stereo shop; they can steer you in the right direction. The speaker sizes are 6.5-front door, 6.5-rear side, and 6x9-rear deck. Because you're leasing the car, I suggest keeping the stock HD, and installing amp/sub combo as described above.

Good luck with your new car...post pics!

1. Yes. But there are other options. Pac-Audio makes an interface that allows you to output an infrared remote signal if the headunit can accept it. This does not work with all stereos(most notably most Sony headunits, check their site for more details). Some headunits are compatible with a direct connection through their own interface (Alpine? Maybe some others and may be model specific).

2. MP input? Not sure what you mean by that. The 06 OE headunits play MP3 CD's. You can add an aux input by using the satellite inputs in the rear through an interface. Pac-audio makes these as well. They make Ipod specific interfaces as well but I don't know if they have one for the G.

3. Not great. It does what it's supposed to but it's certainly not an exceptional sound system. I believe the fronts and rear sides are 6.5 and the rear deck uses 6x9's.

4. Obviously, the factory bezel does not work with an aftermarket stereo. They do make double din stereo kits to fit aftermarket stereos. However, the Climate Control unit is integrated into the factory stereos on the 03-04 and I believe it's the same with the 05+. You would need to buy a separate climate control panel to attache to the double din bezel. The 03-04 also lost dual cliamte control, if equipped, as the replacement climate control panel does not include it. I have heard of people taking apart the button from the OE unit and adding it to the replacement. But it's a bit of a hack job so if you are leasing, it may affect whether or not you'll be able to put the OE unit back in easily.

Personally, with the G's, I'd probably try to find a way to use the existing system and upgrade the amp and speakers. If you wanted to add peripherals and aren't using the SAT connection, you can add it using the Pac-Audio interface I mentioned. I had a modded xbox playing on mine.
