So guys Im starting to go through one of my rb20det's. I took of the three bolts which hold on the turbo outlet and there was a little bit of oil in the pipe and then i take of the intake pipe and open up the throttle body and my finger comes out with a black oily residue. Does it sound like my turbo seals are gone? Or worse?

Also does the ignitor chip need to be on the valve cover? I am planning on running it inside the car so I can remove it for security measures if I have to drive the vert to dangerous places.

Also when I pulled the spark plug cover off numbers 2 and 3 had an orange like sludge over the spark plugs and 1 of them had it on some of the threads. You think it sat in water?

oil in the compressor outlet and TB is probably from PCV blow by, but like you said the oil seal might be going out/gone. I pressurized my turbo oil port with 10 or 20psi of air and you could hear it leaking out of the compressor inlet pretty badly. My turbo had a bunch of oil coming from the turbo outlet when I got it also. How much shaft play does it have?

Dunno what the orange sludge is but I would pull all the plugs and coils out and clean everything. Sounds like it might have been oil + rusty water. Guess it's possible it was some kind of anti seize on the threads but I would take off the valve covers and check them out, and pull off the oil pan and check it out also.. Take out the plugs and shine a light into the cylinders to see if there is any junk in there.

Honestly... that is pretty normal. Both of my RB20s I had ordered for my old car came in that way. Like mentioned before it is likely a little bit from the PCV which isn't too bad. Personally I would wait until it is in the car and you have a catch can on there to see how bad it really is. For now just clean it all out.

No shaft play whats so ever. But the egine definately was lightly modded as there is a greddy vacuum t for a previous boost gauge and the ecu has some sort of racing sticker from japan on it. LMAO. But all parts are stock as far as turbo and elbow go.
