Well folks, after much debating I picked up an Apex Power FC. I think I'll be happy with it. What do you all think?

The only thing is that you are still relying on the factory sensors of which most of them are crap but other than that the power fc is supposed to a great standalone option. I almost went that route but decided to go with SDS as Dee recommends plus I only paid 950 for my SDS setup

my favorite part about that auction is how it says "very rare only one" right about a box full of power FCs makes me laugh every time

Please keep us updated on how it goes for you if you don't mind. I was considering picking up one of those as well after I get my own CA in and running in stock form and was curious how easy/flexible it is to tune.

the power fc is really nice unit.... just make sure that you have the commander to go along with it or you will not have access to any tunability..... and a good o2 sensor becouse it uses the o2 sensor for the fuel map... the djetro vesion would be nice becouse then you can get ride of the mas sensor and move to a map sensor .... very nice option...

LooserBaby, I don't really think there is that much difference between sensors. I'm not looking for crazy big numbers, but I've got something planned for the future that will require standalone, and since I've got the motor out now and I'm upgrading the injectors, turbo, and MAFS, I just decieded to get it now.

NotchbackCA, I think they are talking about the CA Power FC being rare. SR and 13b Power FC's are a dime a dozen.

Jon, I'd like to run it Djetro, but I don't know if it can be added on to the CA Power FC or not. This one is actually designed for Apex by a company called AP engineering. I'll be running a Z32 MAFS, so I'm not too worried about it for now. Later on down the road I'll look into it a little more.

Dee, thanks. I'm sure I'll be calling you for tuning advice! ;)

USsil80, if you look at the link, the Commander is included. And I've got the motor back out to put new rings and a new 3" exhaust on, and so it will be getting a brand new O2 sensor. I've already got it.

Well to be honest, I'm not running a great big turbo, so I don't think I'm really going to need it too much. I know that MAFS are more restrictive, but they are more accurate.

actually yes. A MAP sensor only measures pressure. A MAF sensor measures volume. There is a big difference between 10 psi on a T25 and 10psi on a T88.

Is there any way to convert to speed density but keep the overplug coils? It may sound like a silly question, but I think that's a pretty good design and it would be kindof a shame to get rid of them.

Well I don't have the management in my hands yet, but yea, it should be on the way. The motors coming alright. I've got to get some long bolts to mount it to the engine stand so I didn't get anything done to it tonight. Hopefully after I get the long bolts I should be well on my way to tearing it down. It really should take long I don't think. But I always say that, and it always takes forever....

once you get the map dialed in for your application its way better than a maf, yes if you switch from a t25 to a t88 you will have a difference in A/f but once you compensate for that with your power FC you will be fine, it just comes down to map measures the air right before it enters the combustion chamber as opposed to right before it enters your turbo...

Well regardless, the DJetro conversion isn't available for it so the only way I could do it would be to use and HKS VPC, and the whole reason I went standalone was to get away from piggy backs. I'm not shooting for crazy #'s so I'm not real concerned about it. If a turbo Z can run 300hp stock on one, I think I'll be alright, since I don't think I'll be close to that amount of HP anyway.
