Ok so I bought my Rogue in March of 08. After a few months I started hearing a gurggling like noise when travelling about 40 MPH. Took it to Nissan 3 different times, only to be told that it is a problem with the CVT and Teches are working on it.

Finally after I threaten Lemon Law, they decide to put in a new transmission in Oct. Recently I was driving and heard noise again. So I brought it back again, drove with a mechanic and he said oh yes, you need a new transmission. The 09 model transmissions have been fixed. We'll order you one.

Owners, when driving at about 40 mph, put the car in Neutral and see if there are any crazy noises? If so you need a new transmission

Happy 4th

At 40 MPH the last thing I'm gonna do is shift into neutral!! This is dangerous and can cause high revving.

I avoided the AWD simply for the large number of problems I'd read about but I sure wanted the HID's and paddle shifters.

Why don't you shift to from D to R in 40 mph? Then try from D to P etc...Maybe you'll hear more noises? Tell us more about your experiments. lol. My friend bought a brand new accord in 03 in 04 he had to replace the trany because it stopped shifting to the last gear. in 05 trany was replaced again and dealer said that was defected. I can understand everything but I know the way he drives. Trying to get all the juice from the car from 0-~ then warm up the car was waste of time for him so he never did and so on.

This is kinda interesting, does anyone know for sure if shifting to N when traveling at say 40 mpg is potentially damaging for the CVT? Remember that the typical CVT "rattle" that occurs with the defective CVT is easy to identify by driving slowly in parking lot and pushing on and off the throttle gently, as you release the throttle it will always give a grinding rattle sound, if you have the problem. I definately wouldn't recommend that Rogue owners spend time doing this though, because it is a very small percentage, much less than 1% I'm sure that will have a defective transmission. Just drive the car and enjoy it. If at some point you do think you hear something unusual, then you can do the test I described, and bear in mind if you have the problem it will get louder over time so there isn't any need to worry, if you've got the problem you'll know and there won't be any need to do anything extreme to prove it. Just my opinion as I had my CVT replaced about 8 months ago, and everything has been great since then.

ok to all the wise a$$e$...going from D to N was not done purposely. It was accidently. I am an adult and have no reason to experiment with my new cars transmission that I am making payments on.

Was just making people aware. I generally hear something around 40 MPH in drive, radio turned off or when turning into my driveway when at very low speeds but when I accidently hit neutral, the noise was very abundant.

There was no telling what the long term damage may be with original transmissions...

Good luck to the people that care!
