Well, I bought a set of GSXR1000 ITB's (50mm inlet, 42mm plate) with the secondary butterflies already removed and it comes with the stock TPS. I'll be hacking off the runners on my stock mani, attaching these ITB's and slappin' a good plenum section on it. I'll be sure to let everyone know how it goes.

Will do!

I just wish I'd stop thinking of things to add to it before I put this engine in. It seems like it's NEVER going to actually be in the car!

No doubt...I too would like some of that cash, or a wife unit that let me spend it all...lol.

Are you going for a RB26 type setup?

^^^ In all honesty, I've never even seen an RB26 intake mani, so I don't know. All I do know is this:

Stock intake mani is VERY heavy.Stock runners to plenum section are too long. All that vacuum and IACV crap drives me insane, along with the EGR stuff.ITB's make for snappier throttle response and should provide for (a) lower boost threshold (in conjunction with shortening the IC plumbing) and (b) increased mid to upper RPM performance.

Plus, they look sexy, even if there are no gains whatsoever. *grin*

As for the wife, well, I must say, she's fantastic to allow me such a hobby. I suppose she figures it's better than professional bass fishing or motocrossing, niether of which I'm super good at, but can easily blows lots of money doing.

We do have an agreement, however. I don't do anything further on the car until I take care of the important things at home, such as house repairs, supporting her shoe habit, etc. So, I do a list of stuff, buy some parts. Rinse and repeat as necessary. It works out great!

I hear ya with shoe habit. My wifes shoe addiction was worse then my drug problem...is worse...whatever. I tossed a rod through my block and bought the Yamaha YFZ 450 the next day...she was none to pleased with that purchase either. I'm now back to the 240 which is getting increasingly more expensive, since we all know you never rebuild somthing unless you modify it.

When I was in Japan I worked on a few GTR's, getting the throttle plates rigged the same and the TPS alinged was the hardest part, but it's nothing that can't be done. Take a ton of pics man, we'll make it an article.

Sweet, will do!

One thing I am liking about the GSXR ITB's is that they're already synchronized and driven by a rod-thru design. That way, I just need to adjust the cable and the TPS, then turn a single screw to adjust idle.

So, you ride a 450 Yama dirtbike? I just posted some dirtbike stuff in the Multimedia section...

I'm a quad guy, the dirt bike is a YZF, the quad is the YFZ. I've never been a dirt bike guy personally, although I do love all the Crusty video's. Nothing like whipping your quad off dune when you don't know whats on the otherside.

Oops, sorry, my mistake. Quad's are cool.

Ok, now to do some manifold chopping. I'll post up stuff later.

Finished stripping all the fuel and IAC / secondary controls from the GSXR ITB's. Got all the unwanted doo-dads off the set and now they're nice and clean (as in uncluttered) and ready to be mated up to the runners.

I'll post a full writeup next week when it's complete.

Here are a couple teaser pics of the ITB set after preparation. I had to remove some stuff, but I'll cover all that in my full DIY writeup.

Here's the set next to the stock TB. You can see that 4 x 42mm is obviously larger than one stock TB.

Here's a shot of the Suzuki TPS on the end of the set. When checking the resistance, I found that the Nissan TPS showed a little over 10ohms max and the Suzuki showed just under 5ohms. However, both, when plugged into the engine harness, show voltages in the same ranges, under the same throttle angles. The closed throttle voltage is a little bit higher on the Suzuki TPS than on the Nissan TPS, but I think I can make it work out. If not, I'll have to adapt the Nissan TPS to the ITB's. I'm trying to avoid that, though.

And a little shot of the side I intend to be on top.

That's all for now. I'll do a full writeup next week with details covering what to remove, which wires to splice together on the pigtail, vacuum routing, etc.

the only hard part is making the plenum. i made mine out of aluminum sheet and glassed it together. its currently being boosted 17 psi on right now and holding great. its not on my car though. i sold the setup to a guy with a kat 510. what i did for the tps was make an adapter out of aluminum to turn the ka tps and voila. that and the plenum are the only hardest parts about doing the itb setup. btw, you might want to wait until the motor is in the car to do the plenum to make sure your clearances are good to go. i know on my setup it was pretty tight. good luck....

Thanks for the tips.

I'll be using 3 or 4" aluminum pipe, with a section cut out (lengthwise) and a flat plate welded in place. Then, weld some 3/4" long pipe sections in place for the couplers to mount on the ITB's.

The clearance will be an issue. I thought about waiting until it's in the car and I may still do that, but we'll see. As an advanced trim carpenter, I'm pretty handy with a tape and geometry.
